Tonight we talk to a father who has tried to turn the tragedy of losing his little girl to cancer into something meaningful. He started Sophia's Fund at Tufts New England Medical Center where his daughter was a patient. The money goes to help families with children undergoing cancer treatment pay for day to day expenses.

But now a woman who he thought would help raise money is accused of taking it.

If you would like to learn more about Sophia’s Fund at Tufts New England Medical Center, visit sophiasfund.com.

Donations can be sent to

Tufts New England Medical Center

Please make checks payable to Tufts New England Medical Center and indicate that you would like the money to go toward Sophie’s Families First Fund.

So you went on her property to harass her? You are not the police, just a street reporter. It is true that is woman is scum, however if you were to go on my property my German Shepherd would be the least of your worries. Next time stay on the sidewalk. You cowering away did make for a funny 2 seconds of viewing. You "investigative reporters" are a funny bunch. With that said…that woman should have charges brought against her.

First off I have to say I am horrified on this story. I know the woman in question. She has done numerous charity projects for me and my orginization. Not once was she ever dishonest. She devoted time and energy into raising money for us. Never was there a dime missing. I think what happened here is there was a great charity story to air and you needed a hook and too bad for Ms. Massey she was the hook. Perhaps you should look deeper into a situation before trying to drag someones name through the mud. I stand behind her integrity and honesty all the way and I know many many others do as well. Too bad it wasnt until the very end of the broadcast that you even mentioned in passing that the issue was resolved. Very sad on your part.

First of all, mighty, how was Mike harassing her? I saw the piece on the news, and I didn't see any such thing going on. Second--she could have asked him to leave--I didn't hear her ask him to do so. She just went to her door and sicked her mutt on him. Anyone with half a brain, would just walk away, go in the house and shut the door behind her!!! My guess is that the reporter would get the hint! Do you realize she could be arrested for such a stupid thing? Goes to show--she is a whack job. She should be in jail. What she did to that little girl's family is despicable! Wonder how she would feel if circumstances were reversed? She is most definitely a piece of garbage.

Aroundthepound... I wish I could say this situation is resolved. But even the day after our report aired, it is not.

According to Sophia's dad, Marissa offered to pay $100 a month until her debt is paid, but still hasn't paid him anything. And he tells me she has not returned his phone calls.

Actions speak louder than words.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that $100--it's going to be a pretty cold day before she pays him. And, yes, Mike--you are correct--(her) actions said it all!!!!

I have known Ms. Massey almost her whole life and know the situation in question well and am horrified by the slander, half truths, one sidedness and sheer narrow-mindedness that I am seeing in this 'arena'. Perhaps, it would help if I let you know who you are slandering. Ms. Massey is a single, hard working mother dedicated to her children. She is always willing to lend a hand to those in need as seen in her offer to do someone at work a favor, to ask around to try to sell some cook books for him. As times were tight most of us could not afford to purchase one, although her family did purchase a couple. The money for the sold books was handed to the co-worker as she continued to attempt to sell the others. When she had exhausted all possible customers, she mailed the rest of the cookbooks back. I WAS WITH HER WHEN SHE MAILED THEM! I am abhorred that you would drag a good person’s name through the mud without researching your 'facts'. It was, in FACT, a simple postal error blown completely out of proportion. Yes, showing up on the lawn of a person’s new home uninvited and unwarranted when she and her young children have been traumatized enough with the current horrible dissolution and uprooting of their family, is considered harassment. Yes, shouting and shining lights as the children try to take root in their new neighborhood quietly as you point the finger, is harassment. Mike… this is bad form, even for you. To answer you Kayleisnana, don't believe everything you see on the news, he was asked to get off of her property several times before the dog was allowed to d

Sorry Shauni... listen to our report again. I was never asked to leave until AFTER she let her dog out. The tape doesn't lie.

Let's keep this in mind as you defend Ms. Massey.

It's a fact... we reported on a court finding that she owes the money. A court official heard from both sides and ruled on the case.

And it's a fact... she owes the money and still hasn't paid, even after promising Ben Donnarumma that she would.

Shauni--I have been around long enough, and am most certainly intelligent enough, to know not to believe EVERYTHING I see on the news--written or verbal. However, what I saw of MS. Massey's actions, I have to admit, they spoke VOLUMES!!! That was how I formed my judgment. Then--she was summoned to court, but didn't show up.--she "never got the notice". She mailed the remaining books back to Sophia's family--but a "simple postal error" prevented them from arriving. What does that tell me? No one is slandering Ms Massey--She is being judged ONLY by her actions(inaction).I am "abhorred" by her lack of compassion and consideration of Sophia's family. Think how they are feeling! I think her father is being more than fair. He has said that this is not about the money--it's all about her actions!!!!

That woman disgusts me. If she really did nothing wrong she would not have been so defensive. I saw no harassment, just a cold hearted beast that needs to pay up. With any luck the court system will make her pay interest with late payments. My guess is her house "conviently" flooded so she could attempt to get away with stealing.

This is why I hesitate to give money to a fund unless it is set up in trust at a bank. There are so many dishonest people out there. I think what she did was wrong I doubt he they will see any of the money back from this women. Again this is a other way for the public to be aware who you give your money too for a charity or cause. Thank you Mike.

My parents, and good sense, have always taught me that there are three sides to every story; his, hers and the truth… Experience has always taught me that reporters are supposed to find that truth. From what I have seen and read here, it seems most of you have taken his side for the truth, including the reporter, and a couple have taken her side, but isn’t anyone at all interested in the truth before playing judge, jury and executioner? Maybe this blog stuff just isn’t for me…

I have left at least 2 more posts for this string that have yet to post, and I find it funny that Fox 25 posts the negative ones that support their suppositions quite quickly while those of us that defend the woman you are slandering can barely get a post on here to save our lives... perhaps they are as short sided as the judge that presided and threw out everything that witness for the defense said...

Understand one thing, Shauni--There is NO slander going on here(maybe you should look up the definition of "slander")--I am making a judgment solely by what I SAW and HEARD! Again, your friend's actions and words spoke volumes!!! That was certainly enough for me to make an informed judgment! And, from what I am reading, I am not the ONLY one!!! Maybe you are the one who is blindsighted by your friendship!!!!!( your words--"Short (sided)sighted! I do not know this woman from Adam, and I have NOTHING to lose, or gain by this--and personally--I couldn't care less--I am only stating my opinion AFTER seeing the evidence before me---HER ACTIONS!!!! Enough proof for me!!! Funny thing--You don't like us passing judgment on Ms. Massey, however, you didn't hesitate passing judgment upon all of us???? Face it--your friend ripped of Sophia's family!!!!!

slander (n.) Oral communication of false statements injurious to a person's reputation.
slander (v.) To utter a slander about. See synonyms at malign
slander (v.) To utter or spread slander.

I don't know anyone here except the woman I grew up with who has never stolen anything ever, and as I recall and reread, I have not passed judgement on anyone here as that is God's job not mine, or yours.

As well you should also know that the tape you saw was edited, so you should consider that you have not sctually seen any "evidence"

Shauni, Kayleisnana is right about one thing, this is a written media so any untruth would actually be closer to defamation of character or libel... a much more actionable position should you be interested...
