Fox Undercover rode along with federal agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The agency is actively pursuing illegal immigrants in New England. It deported more than 3,000 people in New England in both 2006 and 2007, including more than 900 criminals each year. This year, there have been nearly 1600 deportations so far.

What do you think? Is ICE too aggressive, not tough enough, or doing things right?

The focus should be on illegals who are serial criminals and not on people whose only "crime" is coming here illegally. People who are simply here illegally but otherwise following the rules should be left alone.

Also, the Bush admin. has a history of being too aggressive in using force. If it continues with ICE, it's no surprise.

They are doing things right.

If they are here illegally they are committing a crime.

It is impossible to be too aggressive in the enforcement of the law.

"It is impossible to bee too aggressive in the enforcement of the law."- I wouldn't go that far, but I think they are doing the right thing for sure. What use are our immigration laws if they are not going to be properly enforced?

Chris, explain to me how it can be too aggressive in the enforcement of the law. (bad sentence, but hurried!!)

What I mean is, a law enforcement agency or a prosecutor can be very aggressive in enforcing the law, so aggressive that they may accidentally violate the Constitution. (and no, I am not in anyway referring to the Bush administration, just speaking in generalities.) I'm all for vigorous enforcement of our laws, but there is such a thing as being too aggressive.

My only 1 problem is What happens to the children of these people. Other than that, get them out of here. I wish they would make a raid in the Fenway and get some of the illegal Brazilians that live in the basements of some of the apartments around here. This is all done with the knowledge of the landlords who have nice cheap help to keep the lobby's clean.

Send them over to Mitt Romney's house. I hear he loves the landscaping work they do.

Chris, you simply cannot aggressively enforce the law by breaking it. I meant use everything legally at your disposal to enforce the existing laws. If it ain't worth enforcing it ain't worth passing....

While I agree that sometimes the law can be enforced too aggressively that it does end up violating the constitution, if you are here illegally you do not have rights under the constitution. That's not to say I think people should be harmed in the enforcement of laws but it does get old that people worry too much about the rights of "illegals".

We have a process to immigration to this country. If you didn't follow it, please return home and start the process in your country of origin. It's not that we don't want you, it's just that we want you to be an asset to this nation, not a liability. On immigration laws are designed to keep America growing and prospering. Contrary to liberal lore, it is not a social welfare program. Those who come here legally need to agree to assimilate into our culture; not demand we assimilate into theirs.

I have two firends that are here waiting to became citizens. They have been here for many years leagally. It takes time to become a citizen and these people who come here illegally, don't want to take the time. They want our welfare. I was sitting at the doctors one day waiting and I over heard a woman talking to a nurse. The nurse asked why she did not have Medicare. The woman answered she had not been in the country for 5 years yet. That after 5 years she would be able to get medicare and social security. WOW. I won't be able to have either and I have been putting into it for over 30 years. Get them out! My ancestors did it right they should too.

I'm listening Chip. :)

I have known people that have been part of these raids (as immigrants). They're not pretty. I don't defend them for being here illegally, since that is not a right they have. However, I have heard some horror stories as to the way they are physically treated when it happens. Should the law be enforced? Absolutely. Especially when some of these folks are also criminals. However, the use of brute force (unless absolutely necessary) should be limited and that's not what I've heard. I've heard they're very physically mistreated (I can't confirm or deny if this is true. This is stuff I've been told). Like Fenwaydav, I am concerned about what happens to the kids though. They are, after all, innocent victims. What do they do with these children?

momryan,

I don't know for sure because I'd have to hear the whole conversation, but what that woman probably was talking about is her status in this country. Meaning, if you are a legal US Resident, you cannot become a US Citizen until you have been a legal US Resident for at least 5 years. That is the law. I'm guessing she can't enjoy the benefits of SS until that time? Not sure, but it may be the case. She may be trying to do it right too.

Keep up the Great Job ICE. Illegals have no Right to be here period.

ICE is not tough enough. The raid in New Bedford turned into a love fest. What to do with the spouses and children. Boo hoo. That question is never asked in a drug raid. They deal with it because the people incarcerated are criminals.

You did not say how these people were found and if they were working. You did not say what was being done to the employers who prey upon these people. The employers are the new slave owners making these people work in substandard conditions and for lower than normal wages for like work. The employers should be sent to jail.

I think ICE needs to be more aggressive. We still have a huge problem. The illegals are ruining Framingham, Lawrence, the State of Texas, Arizona, etc, etc!

What to do with the children? Put them up for adoption perhaps? They will live better lives than the ones their parents can give them. It is a complicated situation if the children are illegal too. Although I'm sure a lot of them are anchor babies(stupid law).

I think ICE should do some major expanding by hiring more agents. Further more the real key here is prevention. We need to stop enticing them to come over. We need to get tougher and stop inviting them here. If we do they will go away eventually. Most of them anyway.

Didn’t we just have this conversation not to long ago?

People are always worried about the kids. What’s going to happen to the kids? Well, these people come here illegally and have kids knowing full right well they’ll be able to stay here with them. If not, then all the bleeding heart liberals will fight to keep them here. What has to be done is change the law so that anyone who comes to this country illegally and has children here illegally, then those children will not be considered legal citizens and will not be recognized as such. Then it just may slow down the illegal’s coming here and having kids. If not, send the kids home to where ever they came from with their illegal parents and all the bleeding heart liberals who want to support them.

jovanone,

You're right, and yeah this conversation is a hot topic everywhere yet other than ICE, nothing is being done. These parents are putting their young children/infants in harms way. Why should they become our problem? I mentioned adoption here because I know all these bleeding hearts would be happy to adopt them. Anchor babies are what have them coming here in droves. Absolutely, change that stupid law! As I stated earlier, Prevention is key!
