I just saw the perfunctory story on network tv about a wild cougar that received a death sentence for wandering into this city, probably under the cover of darkness.   The story made no mention of threatening behavior and showed the animal scooting out of a hiding place, seemingly trying to avoid human contact.   Yet once the calls came into police headquarters, it was all the pretext they needed to find it, and exterminate it.  The police reported that the shooting was in self defense !  The animal was cornered, threatened, and acted on instinct.  It was the cops every intention to kill this animal whether it attacked or not.  We don't even know that it attacked.  It could have just snarled and that was enough to precipitate bullets.  That's what I believe.  Is it wrong of me to distrust the word of the police?  Perhaps this story has more to do about cops than a potentially dangerous cat.  What do you believe, if anything?

Tonight, I think I'll rent "Revenge of the Animals" starring Christopher George and other dead actors.
