I have always been a fan of live rock music. The harder, the bluesier, the better right? The problem is that the great acts that I grew up to know and love have either faded away (Zeppelin, Who) or force you to remortgage your house to buy a ticket (Stones, Aerosmith, Police).

I  scratch my "oldies rock itch" by catching some great local tribute bands who do a fantastic job of capturing the magic of the real deal. I thought I would pass along such pertinent information to others afflicted by this condition.

Love Aerosmith but you don't have $400.00 to see them at the Tweeter Center next month? You should check out Draw The Line. This band does a superb job at bringing you back to the better years of the "Bad Boys from Boston". Draw The Line is the official Aerosmith tribute band and perform with Steven Tyler's blessing. They perform across the country but focus on playing locally here on the South Shore. These guys pack every venue they play. www.drawtheline.net

I can never get enough Zeppelin. Tonight I will be catching Kashmir performing in Newport, RI. It will be my 3rd time seeing them perform and I am blown away everytime. The singer is a dead ringer for Robert Plant and even sings better. You heard me. What is your fave Zeppelin song? Yeah they play that...yes and that one too...yes..yes...  www.kashmirrocks.com

Angus Young rocks the house and brings the party vis-a-vis Dirty Deeds. There is no better tribute band that brings high energy and insists on audience participation. Band members will drag you up onstage to join them, "Angus" will jump into the audience throughout the show, and they'll pump you up with the best from the Bon Scott and Brian Johnson years. www.dirtydeedstributeband.com

So how does a 40-something married parent have fun while still affording college tuition for the kids? Check these guys out. I'll be the aging 6'3" air guitarist scaring the band while sipping cranberry and soda.

Randy,

You Fox bloggers actually know each other ? Who was there?

To your point. I know what you mean. My favorite artists are a. dead or b. tres expensive.

Although I will go to great lengths to see Paul McCartney. The kids can take out college loans, right?

I can't get into tribute bands, though I'm sure the ones you mention are great.

Beatlejuice, of course was Fab. But alas, dead now too.

For a Beatles fix, I hear Fab Faux featuring Will Lee of David Letterman's band is great. A good friend of mine is seeing them in NYC next month.

Hi Bob,
Met a few bloggers although I did not catch any blog "handles" or names. I love McCartney too. Even the new album. I think he is pulling in over $150.00 per ticket, right?
I remember the great New Years Eve shows Beatlejuice used to put on. Brad will never be forgotten. I have heard of Fab Faux too. I will hope they make it down this way sometime.
I forgot to mention an outstanding local tribute band fronted by Gary Cherone (Extreme, Van Halen): SlipKid. A must for any WHO fan. Check them out www.slipkidband.com

Keep rockin'!

Hi Randy,

Macca was up to $250.00 on the last couple of tours. I paid it in 2002, had great floor seats on both legs of that tour. In 2005, I went with the $125.00 seats to the side o the stage, and still had a great time. I know it's expensive, but he really is the only performer left I would pay this kind of money for. He's amazing.

BTW, if you like Memory Almost Full, you should really check out Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. Not as upbeat, as it's his divorce album, but easily one of his very best pieces of music. In fact, the McCartney quote in my bio is from that album.

I could go on and on...:)

He is an amazing musician. I have not given Chaos a good listen but I will now that you mentioned it. Since you are a big Macca fan maybe you can tell me which album (besides "Back in the USA")I can find "Every Night" on. I get together to jam with friends and we have added it to our list. I love playing it. Very soulful and bluesy. BTW... have you seen the video to "Everybody's gonna dance tonight?" Classic Macca! That one brings me back to the old days of MTV. When you said "both legs of that tour" was that a dig at his ex? Kidding.
We both could go on and on. Now you have to spill your favorite McCartney album.

Hey Randy,

My pleasure. Every Night is on one of my favorite albums. It's simply called "McCartney." It was released back in 1970. Macca plays all the instruments, and I just think it's great. This is very much a homemade album, lots of unfinished musical ideas, but I love the informal nature of it. Wonderful album, IMO. BTW, McCartney also boasts one of Paul's greatest compositions: Maybe I'm Amazed.

I can't pick a favoite McCartney album. There are so many. But you can't go wrong with McCartney, Band On the Run, Tug of War, and Chaos and Creation in the Backyard.

I hadn't thought of the legs comment. That's a riot!

Dance Tonight and Ram On!

Thanks Bob! I agree completely. Maybe I'm Amazed is right up there with the greatest of rock tunes. I even remember seeing The Faces covering it on an old VH1 Classics clip. Has he ever done anything subpar? I don't think so. My favorite live performance is on the "USA" album: Blackbird (looks like I am, in fact, going on and on..).

P.S. If your working with Butch tonight tell him that the hardware guy said "hello".

Thanks!

BB just played The Hampton Beach Casino, (Red Neck Riviera) last month. I think he's just a wee bit too old for me.

I've been pretty busy this month with concerts, so far I've seen Daughtry w/ Nickelback at the Tweeter, The Police at Fenway, Keith Urban at DCU and will seen Buffet this Saturday at Fenway, every ticket was over $100, My kids rag on me for going to more concerts than they do but for one they cant afford to go and I can and I was their age when I had them and couldnt afford to go and buy diapers, so now that they are older I can live a little ;-)

That is awesome that as a parent you have managed to get out and see those shows. The Police! I am jealous! Outlandos La Amour is one of my favorite albums. No further comment needed on Buffet. Every show is a party. My wife and I are about to cave in and see Aerosmith (for the millionth time) 2nd row center at the Tweeter next Friday. My kids are older too. Now I am making up for all the times where going to a concert was financially out of the question and impossible because the kids were too little. Have fun at the Buffet show!

I am going to Aerosmith as well. Great seats in section 3. I saw Genesis last night. They sounded great, but it was a really mellow show, and they left some great songs out of the set list. Again, sound quality was perfect! I'll give the show a 7 1/2.

Genesis 3 sides live is an excellent album.

Hey...get this: I just heard from a VERY good friend of mine who has inside sources within the VAN HALEN camp. Van Halen has their hopes set on reuniting with Michael Anthony by the start of the upcoming tour or before the tour ends. Current band rehearsals with Wolfgang Van Halen have demonstrated the band being in top form. The band is considering the higher appeal of an all-original member line-up with Anthony back at bass. I just thought I would share.....
