It's been a while since I've blogged here on myfoxboston.com. I was out a few weeks after my wife gave birth to our first child, a baby boy. So I now return to the blogging world as a Father, and probably a little more sentimental than before the arrival of our little guy.

Though my son is only a few weeks old, I've already experienced our first baseball bonding experience. In between diaper changes and numerous feedings, my son and I had a chance to watch our first Red Sox - Yankees game on television. What better way to introduce him to the greatest sport of them all than a Sox Yankees game?!

Now of course, he has no idea who Manny or Big Papi are yet, or that Josh Beckett put together his best start of the young season, but I could tell by the look in his eye, that he really cant stand the Yankees already.

Anyway, it was the first of, I'm hoping, many many sports bonding moments that my son and I will have. A Father, A Son and A Ballgame...what better way to spend an Spring night.

Ryan,

Congratulations to you and your wife on the arrival of your little boy. I wish you many, many more happy occassions for the 3 of you. If you don't mind my asking, what did you name the Little Champ?

He is going to love his Boston teams, I can tell! He was born during a time when the Sox just came off ANOTHER (I can't believe I can say that) WS championship, the Pats came incredibly close to making history (had they not been robbed), the Celts are a favorite to win it all or at least be there at the end AND to top it off, the team that no one thought would make it past game 4, the Bruins, just forced a game 7. MAN, he is getting a MAJOR intro into the world of sports!! Did you get him his 'Big Poppy' t-shirt already?? LOL!

This is an incredible time to be a sports fan in Boston. Congratulations on the birth of your son, my son's birthday happens to be today and I can't tell you how fast 14 years goes by. Enjoy the little guy, there is nothing like having a son.
June, do you really think the Pats were robbed or was there a huge bone in their throat to go along with the mighty chip in their collective shoulders?

Ryan,

God bless you, your wife and yur son. I am so happy for you. there is nothing more "American" than a Dad and his son watching/playing baseball....

Quick story: In 2004, when the las tout was recorded in the World Series, an old man in Phillipston cried...he missed his Dad...and mourned the fact he was not there to see the Sox win...

In many ways...it is the most beautiful thing in the world!!!

Congrats on the little one,

I'm not really a big baseball fan but I do watch now and again. I won't miss the Pats though. I love watching with my little one. He'll be 3 the end of August. I know I have him hook, not matter what we are playing or seem to be doing he says "you be Randy Moss and I'll be Jr. Seau"

Congratulations! I recently had a baby boy, which we named Ryan in September, so we were fortunate enough to have him with us for (another) great World Series win!! Yay!! Now that he's almost 8 mos old, he focuses on the TV and it's the funniest thing when we have the Sox on, it's almost like he knows already, and gets all excited when we do over great plays, it's hysterical! Best of luck!

Ryan -

Congratulations!! Nothing like being a dad, huh? Especially to a son (nothing against girls, I'm still hoping we can have one sometime).

When my firstborn was nary a few months old and colicky, the Sox were in the playoffs/penant race/world series. The ONLY thing that seemed to calm him down from screaming bloody murder was watching the Sox.
I was already a huge fan and am now even more so thanks to the "Sox effect". Now we have TWO sons and I am trying to get #2 interested too (usually past their bedtimes).

Too bad we will probably not be able to afford going to a lot of the games I went to as a kid...I'd rather buy a nice plasma with the money instead of further lining the Sox owners pockets....
