We have an old school match-up on our hands in the NBA Finals!

The Celtics and Lakers will face off in the NBA Finals for the 11th time in their history.  You can see recaps of all of the previous finals match-ups by clicking here.

The Celtics beat the Lakers in their two games this season, but that was before Pau Gasol entered the fray.

Here are how the two teams matched up this year:

So who's going to win this series?

I like the C's in 7 in this one. Such a solid all around team who has learned how to win through adversity and the key to the series will be Rondo. His quickness should allow the C's to get into the paint against the Lakers for some open looks. Watch for the 2nd year PG to really grow into his role and take control.

I also predict Brian Scalabrine will clothesline Lamar Odom on a fast break...

Lakers will win. I am a Celtics fan and I think Lakers will win. Matchups, Smatchups. This comes down to one big factor - Kobe. The difference in this series is the difference between stars and superstars. The Celtics have 3 stars, but no superstars. The Lakers have a superstar and in basketball, unlike any other sport, a superstar can impose his will and take over a game regardless of anybody else on the floor.

The Celtics play great defense but they took everything they had to get past LeBron in 7 games. Kobe is better than LeBron. When he decides to take over at various points in this series, the Celtics will have no answer. Gasol will have big problems defending KG but the difference is that KG will not impose his will in crunch time, he will just continue to play his same game (catch ball in post, kick out of double-team).

The other factor, albeit a much smaller factor, is the coaching match-up. Phil Jackson and his 9 NBA titles vs. Glenn Rivers who won his first playoff series 6 weeks ago. The only solace I can take is that somehow Tom Coughlin outcoached Bill Belichick in the Super Bowl, so I suppose that the impossible can still happen in sports. We'll see.

CELTS SWEEP

No disrespect to Celtics fans, but I’m taking the Lakers in five. In my opinion the Celtics lack heart, leadership and a bench. I can see the teams splitting wins in Boston and the Lakers sweeping the rest of the series.

All I have to say is one name, KOBE!

Celtics fans need to be real about the situation... Your team barely made it out of the Eastern Conference Finals. The true championship series was between the Lakers and Spurs. WESTSIDE!!!

The Lakers are going to tap that @$$!

No disrespect to the Lakers. To start the Lakers are a great team and have the potential to be a true champion. Hey but with kobe on the team they are more like the Flakers. Well the reason kobe is not like Mike is because Jordan is the best basketball player that ever played the game. He is still teaching the true fundamentals of basketball. The reason kobe denies he doesn't want to be compare to Jordan is because he doesn't want to be in Jordan's shadow. Second all he wants is for the critics to stop comparing him to Jordan so he could clean up his image and get the monkey off his back. If kobe was a true Laker he would never talk smack during the off season. All he does is wine and cry. That is all he does when he wants to get his way. Just let management do their job. That why they have the big boss "Buss". Well "MVP" please! Gasol or Labron James deserve that title we all know what Kobe is capable doing good thing on the court and off. Is time for a new star to get the credit for the achievement they deserves and all the sports analyst know that it is a true fact. Kobe was better off packing and hitting the road "Jack". The reason Kobe has won his previous championships was because of Shaq and the crew. The only credit I give Kobe is for getting ride of Shaq, "bad choice". As for Fisher much love to you. Good luck Phil Jackson good job you deserve it. Well i pick the Celtics in 6 games all the way. If the Lakers loose Kobe will have to stay quiet because he should be proud that they made it that far. Now if he decides to start talking all I say is, shut up an

Lakers are a much better team, and have shown their heart to win. Lakers played great against the Spurs which are an excellent team and defending champs. The Celtics play great, but they had trouble defeating the Cavs, and Lakers had no trouble going through their opponents. Sorry Celtic fans, but Lakers will take this one on game 6.

This is for JORDAN45. What does Jordan have to do with this. Everyone knows Jordan is the best to play the game duhhh. Do not hate on Kobe, his a talented player and one of the best players to play the game. The day Kobe wins another 3 titles in a row without a center then he can be compared to Jordan.

Well I must say, L.A. fans, so far, have much more class then Giants fans. Very refreshing to see some sportsmanship.

I'm a C's fan all the way and think L.A is a hell of a team, and we're gonna see a hell of a series. Having said that, C's in 7!

For rauleague714 to bring Jordan up. The one that brought him up was Kobe in an interview a couple of days a go. All I am doing is trying to shed some real facts on what's going on. Like I said i aint no Kobe hater. But simply I did agree there is better talent out that are better then him. He is going to be 30 soon soon not much juice for him to win championships. Like I said, he has the talent but he should be a player not a wiener. Sorry but it is true. Plus everybody that is a bang wagon always says that about him duhhhhh. Well if he wins this one is because of Gasol not KOBE. Lates.

Well, we have a matchup that David Stern really wants. Lets see how well the ratings will be. If the ratings are not double that they were last year, then the league office will whine about it.

And let's hope we don't have any crooked referees, either.

Let's hope it goes at least 6 games since it's way too early to be stuck with just watching baseball all summer.

jordan45,
kobe was not the person that brought up jordan in that interview,it was steven a. smith .
all of you jordan worshippers are worried that he may surpass jordan.he just may!
also if you remember correctly jordan was one of the most selfish players in his early years.he also would chastise his owner(jerry krause) publicly all the time,he demanded that they get more talent(rodman) he also refused to play for any other coach than phil while in chi.
jordan once shot a freethrow with his eyes closed-if kobe did that he would be crucified.

when kobe wins the championship and then brings home the gold this summer, then we will start.

You are crazy if you think the Celtics can win this championship! The LAKERS have beaten much better teams in the Western Finals. Besides the LAKERS have the best player in the league Kobe! LAKERS in six.

You mean those same teams that Celts beat this season as well? It's not like the Lakers blew through the Western Conference Finals...every game was extremely close with the exception of Game 2 and ummm yeah Brent Barry was fouled so I didn't need to hear from Lakers' fans about crooked referees. The fact of the matter is that the Celts in one season have come together as a team and have learned how to win close games in pressure situations during this playoff run. We've gone against a superstar such as LeBron, we won two games on the road against a championship team with more experience than us in the Pistons. Just because the Celtics don't put up the flashy offensive numbers doesn't mean they won't win this series. You talk about how Kobe is that much better than anyone else...well who do you have to match up on Pierce? KG? Even Rondo has the advantage over Fisher who I do like. C's in 7! Beat LA! I'll be there tonight and Sunday.

You know Jack will be in the house for one of these games and you gotta imagine some of the celebs filming around Boston will be in the house as well. More importantly though...Legends of Celtics past will be there to witness the C's take a 1-0 lead.
