Apparently there won't be a sales tax holiday this year.

VB,

I agree with you 100%. Maybe the tax free holiday would help stimulate some of the economy in Massachusetts. It would certainly help out businesses who are feeling the pinch.

And what about the recent survey that said the judges and legislature should be given hefty raises? Talk about sending the wrong message. In the private sector, raises are generally given for superior performance. When the legislature starts performing then maybe they would deserve a raise.

Repeal of the state income tax? Didn't voters already do that which the legislature has ignored?

And the Mass Turnpike Authority. I think it was you who reported that 80 cents of every dollar goes to running the Authority. Personally, I think it is time for the Mass Turnpike Authority to be dissolved and let the Mass Highway Department run the turnpike.

VB,

I do agree with you on this. However I think a "tax free week (not just weekend)" would be appropriate.

Unfortunately, I do get the impression that our legislators are clueless as to how hard it is for your regular, everyday Massachusetts taxpayer to make ends meet. I've been unemployed for almost 5 months, and there are "no real job prospects" on the horizon. I would love to see these legislators walk in my shoes for a day.

Give the average Massachusetts taxpayer a break!!!!!!

would also love to see them make choices that I shouldn't have to..between medication for my diabetes or food..

No shock here. It's no wonder there is a "mass" exodus from Mass. It cost me over $60 to fill my gas tank today, and then $3.50 to take the tunnel just to have my kids visit their grandparents on the South Shore. Of course, this doesn't include my favorite Massachusetts tax, excise tax. Isn't that something that the politicians keep promising to get rid of, too?

Come on, people. Stop deluding yourselves that Massachusetts has such high taxes. Sure, the cost of living is higher, but guess what, you live in the Northeast, one of the most educated, most technologically advanced, most comfortable, and most diverse places to live in the entire country.

And come on... are you really complaining about excise tax? Do you know what the registration fees in New Hampshire are based off of? It's a percentage of the value of your car. But not the Blue Book value... no, no. It's whatever value your city/town THINKS your car value is. My parents moved to NH thinking they would escape the evil taxes of Massachusetts. Know what they got? 2.5x property taxes, and fees up the wazoo.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. More places for me to move into!

Mike,

I am, in fact, complaining about excise tax - or at least the principle of it.

As far as NH fees, I really don't care since I live here in MA. What scares me is that so many people buy into this pay whatever, whenever, mentality because the government tells us we must.

Oh, I can agree that I dislike the principle of it, but that seems to be complaint #1 from most residents here.

Also, I just brought up the New Hampshire thing as an example, really. The point is that they're going to get you one way or another. No such thing as a free lunch, unfortunately :-/
