Here is a question for all the Myfox bloggers, What do Al Gore and the Chilean Sea Bass both have in common?

Answer: They were both at his daughter's wedding. The only problem is, the Chilean Sea Bass is one of the world's most threatened species of fish. You can check out the article here. Yes, Mr. Environmentalist served a threatened species at his daughter's wedding. The article did not specify if Mr. Gore purchased "Chilean Sea Bass offsets" in order to neutralize his impact on this threatened species.

I consider myself an environmentalist, I try and take common sense steps to reduce the amount of energy I use, and to minimize any negative impact I might have on the environment. The only thing I ask is that the so-called "leader" of the environmentalist movement not do stupid things like having a global concert that has a negative impact on the environment, and could he please not serve an endangered species at his daughter's wedding? Is that too much to ask?

Chris,

Al Gore is not an environmentalist. He is a politician who has adopted environmentalism as his callng card, important only becuase it 1. makes him money, and 2. may get him elected to national office.

He is a fraud, and has been his whole political career.

Humble, read my first week of "Stupid Should Hurt"...I covered Live Earth, and I can tell you, Al Gore is a moron who should be on life support by now. Don't forget, this IS the guy who claimed "I invented the internet". And subscribes to the fact that if you buy a couple of cases of energy efficient light bulbs, you can fly around in a private jet all you want.

Don't you just love the way these hypocrites tell us little people we should walk or ride a bike to work while they fly around on lear jets?

A flashy headline does not make a story so.
"Is Chilean sea bass an endangered species? No."

This refreshing morsel of truth came from the U.S. Departments of State and Commerce in their latest comments on the subject. But elite chefs in Seattle and across the country, unencumbered as they are by pesky facts, are buying into environmental hype. One by one, they are banishing Chilean sea bass from their menus, based on the say-so of a few agenda-driven environmental scare groups.

This latest campaign mirrors the equally unnecessary "Give Swordfish A Break" crusade of 1998, run by a special interest group named SeaWeb. That effort, which sought to eliminate Atlantic swordfish from restaurants, also drew official skepticism. A National Marine Fisheries Service spokesman said at the time: "It will end up having a detrimental effect on our fishermen . . . I know a lot of (U.S. fishermen) who have lost their jobs already."

The federal government maintained throughout that swordfish were never in any danger. And some fishery analysts say SeaWeb's fishy jihad actually backfired. It seems that when the four-star restaurants stopped serving swordfish, the market was flooded with fish. You didn't think the fishermen were going to stop catching it, did you? When supply went up, the price went down; suddenly, mid-priced and family restaurants could afford to put swordfish on their menus.

Chip if Gore is a fraud What would you call that guy you call Mr. President,a man who tells the people he is there for them, and then allows New Orleans to uneccesarilly suffer but when it came to Texas he along with his Federal disaster relief were right there. Or the guy who pardons libby a "CRIMINAL" a CRIMINAL chip..A man who says we are now finally getting our imports from overseas. A man who has to terminate more members of his staff "AFTER" they screwed up then any other President in documented history. Talk about fraud seems to me he's posing as a homosapien

Ah, Chris, another blogger whose insights I've missed.

I have to give Al Gore credit for one thing: he's brought attention to the fact that we are, in fact, custodians of the planet. Granted, his campaign has taken the issue to ridiculous proportions, indicting first-world countries for the crime of global destruction rather than emphasizing the simple "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" motto that is so practical. Something I think has been lost in this whole "global warming" hue and cry is the fact that we can help other human beings by being less wasteful. By using less water, throwing away less food, and spending less money on things we don't really need, we'd have more to give to those who do really need it, and we would keep the Earth cleaner for future generations.

All that being said, politics is perception. If Al Gore wants to be known as the "Green Guru", he needs to walk the walk far more than he has been. Quietly scaling back his lavish excesses would make a far greater impact (on man and nature) than wide-release documentaries and million-dollar concerts.

MWhite,

If yo actually look at the facts, the first 48 hours of a disaster are State responsibility. After that they request federal aid. If the truth be told, the majority of the problem in NO was both creatred and caused by Louisiana. But those facts are inconvenient for the "Bush-haters".

Oh, and Texas....WHO was the governor of Texas who was responsible for setting up their Emergency Management System that handled their recent flooding better than Louisiana? Oh ya....fpesky little facts again.....

Hey Chip I guess that accounts for his statement that he had no idea the storm was going to be as bad as it was and loe and behold we see a meeting with what??? Bush being advised of had bad the Storm was going to be.

How is pointing out the total incompetence of the Local and State preparation and response to Katrina victimizing the victim? Governor Kathleen Blanco was almost unbelievably inept at responding to Katrina. Does the Federal Government share the blame in the inept response? I believe it certainly does. But so also does Mayor Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin, who decided it would be an intelligent decision to order the evacuation of New Orleans about 24 hours before Katrina was due to strike. And that genius got re-elected.

Maybe because Bush hid the fact that he was made aware by his advisors how bad the storm was going to be lied about it and never told the Mayor of New Orleans about it.

Although Al Gore has not been the best to set an example at least the subject is at the fore again. Every little bit helps, reduce, reuse, recycle!
As far as New Orleans there are a lot of people who are responsible. There are a lot of reasons but mainly the levies did not hold so I guess that would be where the investigation should start. Pointing fingers will never do as it will be a vicious circle. New Orleans is one of my favorite cities. I’d just like it if that part of history is not repeated. Although one must bear in mind that Mother Nature did have a hand in that terrible incident and even as far as technology has gone nature is still very unpredictable

I absolutely amazes me...where did President Bush get his information about the intensity of the storm? the National Weather Service, and the National Hurricane Center. The information is public....If the Governor and the Mayor is waiting for their phone to ring with a call from the President of the United States to report the weather to them, they are the two most dumbassed sub-humans in the world. And out of curiosity...who was responsible for the levies? who knew they were weak? who had engineering reports? Who's job was it to protect the citizens of New Orleans? the President? Let's start with the Mayor, whose city the levies were in...and the governor whose state the levies were in...

NO>>>>I have a better idea...let's blame EVERYTHING incuding the AIDS epidemic in Africa on George Bush...sheesh.

You can't possibly be suggesting that Blanco and Mr. Chocolate City weren't made aware of the severity of Katrina. Do you think that NOAA briefed Bush and Bush alone? Nagin and Blanco are at least as culpable in the failed response as Bush is.

ahumbleman, ever been in the Military? ever worked for a Police dept.? ever work in Corporate America?. The man at the top is ALWAYS responsible for his troops. Are you saying the Commander and Chief( and I use those words lightly) couldn't get a moron Govenor and a foolish Mayor to do their jobs in the wake of this disaster but he should be in charge of 50 Govenors and 50 Mayors and the entire country. In the real world culpability always falls upon the leader they know it going in.

Actually, (from a guy who was military, fire, not police, but close enough, and corporate), the President has absolutely NO power over state or lacal government. what's more, if Pres. Bush ever jumped in and tried mandating a local level response, he'd be burned in effigy...it is so beyond his scope. It's like the Chief of the Newton Police Department going to the WSellesley statin and ordering a shif leader to change his patrols...or the DEO of Exxon/Mobil showing up at Ford and telling the engineers to make more fuel efficient cars...

Blanco and Nagin are freely elected cheif executive offices of their respective branches of government.

Here's a local example...the State Fire Marshal can't arrive at a fire and tell the Chief of a community how to fight it.

Do you believe that the Governor and the Mayor are some underlings that report to Bush? No, they are each executives themselves, and not only that both Blanco and Chocolate City were in a FAR BETTER position to determine the necessary steps to prepare and respond to Katrina, because both were far closer to the situation than any President could hope to be. I completely agree with your basic premise that the Federal Government f'ed up in its response to Katrina, and that Bush deserves alot of the blame for that. But it is beyond understanding why you simply let off the hook both Blanco and Nagin.

I read the blog....you have been holding Pres. Bush directly responsible for things that other people had direct responsibility for. Thus ahumbleman's respponse. He's right...FEMA was not prepared adequately. But ordering the timely evacuation of New Orleans was the responsibility of LOCAL officials.

And frankly, I read the blog. It was about Al Gore's hypocrisy....not Pres. Bush's mistakes...What I have responded to is your belief that every problem in the world, including the lint in your navel, is the direct responsibility of Bush...when the one of the alternatives to him (Remember, he beat Al Gore in the first elections....) is spouting environmental rhetoric while harvesting environmentally sensitive stuff (jet fuel, electricity and Chilean Sea Bass) for his personal convenience or his status in society.

Oh..and how did it go in '68...Marines..."One shootin', two rootin' and three takin' pictures..." My friend...shots at the branch of service...that is germaine...

Chip no need for me to further dignify your statements with a response you are simply to far beneath me for me to continue to waste my precious time attempting to educate someone who thinks they are educated. Better get back on that Big book..Your ignorance disgusts me, your lack of knowledge amazes me and how much you believe in YOU scares me. Ahh Bush won the Electoral vote not the peoples vote but what do you care the only people you care about are the ones who can do something FOR YOU. see ya you have now succeeded at just boring me with you to the point where your opinions no longer matter
