I am talking of course about "No Country for Old Men" an adaptation of the novel written by Cormac McCarthy (my favorite author), and directed by the Coen brothers.

I have never really written a movie review before, and I don't know if this will convince people to see this movie, but it was by far the best movie I have seen in theaters in quite some time. The basic plot centers around three characters, Llewelyn Moss (played by Josh Brolin), Anton Chigurh (played by Javier Bardem) and Sheriff Tom Bell (played by Tommy Lee Jones). One day while hunting, Llewelyn comes across a drug deal gone horribly wrong (the movie is set in Texas in 1980), and finds $2 million in cash that for the rest of the movie he tries to make his own. Llewelyn is hunted by Anton Chigurh, a man who is so evil it is practically beyond all comprehension. A man so evil, yet at certain times he is almost humorous as well. Sheriff Bell is caught in the middle, trying to stop Chigurh from hunting down and killing Moss.

The story is an incredible analysis of human nature and all of its flaws, fate, and evil. From the very first scene of the movie you are sucked in, your attention will be devoted entirely to this movie as it moves from scene to scene. It is an intense film that grabs a hold of you and doesn't let go until the very last scene.

Thanks for the tip. I have heard good things about this.

I went to see it again a second time this past Friday (I went to a late show, I was the only one in the theater, some people might find that creepy, I thought it was awesome, didn't have to worry about anyone talking or someone's cell phone going off). I enjoyed it thoroughly and picked up on somethings that I had missed previously.

To bad you just couldn't put you jammies on and stretch out. Nothing creepy about watching a good movie without distractions.

I haven't actually heard anything about it, but you make it sound like a worthwhile see. The plot sounds a wee bit like "A Simple Plan" - an excellent Billy Bob Thornton movie from the late '90s. Twisty-turny plot and top-notch writing and acting. Worth renting if you haven't yet seen it.

As for "No Country", I'll definitely see it (probably on DVD), if only to see some real, interesting, creative cinema in the land of "Fred Claus" and "Alvin & the Chipmunks" (which I'll most definitely see, but will never admit it to any of you people).

Valentine,
My husband and I were in the theater watching previews of Alvin, and turned to each other and said, 'aren't we glad our children are older and we no longer have to take them to every silly kids movie?" Lately we've been talking about movies we DON"T have to see anymore, (until the grandkids come along, that is.....)

Well, my kids are still too young to go to the theater, but I know I'll be seeing Alvin for nostalgia's sake - though not until the DVD release. The Chipmunks were part of my childhood - especially the Christmas album. And good for you that you've reached the tail end of the kid-movie years - we've only just begun. Yay. :-)

I should have gone to see that instead of "Margot at the Weddding", which I didn't enjoy much.
