Barack Obama looks at a sign held by a supporter during a campaign stop in Oregon, Ohio, Monday. (AP Photo)
John McCain has taken a lot of heat from critics who say he's stoking anger and intolerance among his supporters.
But the Republican nominee is not the only one with supporters whose comments and demonstrations on the race are obscene and, in some cases, violent.
An array of T-shirts, for instance, displaying the image of Sarah Palin and some variation of the "C-word" are gaining new popularity as Election Day nears. A group of protesters outside Palin's fundraiser in Philadelphia Saturday wore shirts emblazoned with the words, "Sarah Palin Is a C--T."
Cafe Press is selling a slew of off-color Palin T-shirts, including the one spotted in Philadelphia. (Granted, a shirt with the words "Barack Obama Is a Can't" is also for sale on the site.)
The Portland Tribune also reported over the weekend that two men in Oregon were arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail at a large McCain campaign sign, igniting part of the structure.
And on Monday at a McCain rally in North Carolina, an Obama supporter stood outside and repeatedly yelled, "McCain is a murderer."
One woman yelled back: "He fought for your right to say that."
Republicans argue that while neither campaign can curtail every action of its supporters, McCain is being unfairly depicted as the only candidate who attracts audience members with extreme views.
"It's something that we recognize -- that neither campaign has complete control over their supporters," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds told FOXNews.com. "We've stood firmly behind our effort to try to hold our rallies to a higher level, and certainly we would expect the same from Barack Obama.
"It is clear that on many occasions they have failed to keep their supporters above board," he added. "(Voters) should understand that this is a phenomenon that plays itself out at both campaigns."
Indeed, both candidates are still attracting rowdy supporters.
The mini-altercation in North Carolina took place a few hundred yards from a sign that read "NOBAMA" featuring side-by-side pictures of Obama and Usama bin Laden.
Politico.com posted a photo snapped at the McCain rally earlier in Virginia Beach showing audience members holding up signs that say: "Obama Bin Lyin'."
Bounds said the McCain campaign condemns such signs.
Georgia Rep. John Lewis, a civil rights icon, accused McCain over the weekend of "sowing the seeds of hatred and division," and compared his rallies to the "climate" created by segregationist Alabama Gov. George Wallace.
The Lewis statement came after supporters at McCain's rallies repeatedly yelled words like "socialist" and "terrorist" when the Republican candidate was discussing Obama.
But both campaigns seem to be making an effort to dial back negative rhetoric, or at least calm down their crowds.
Obama scolded his audience Monday in Toledo when they began booing at the very mention of McCain. "We don't need that," he said. "We just need to vote."
McCain corrected a woman Friday who said Obama is "an Arab," drawing boos from the crowd.
The Arizona senator, who objected to the Lewis statement, hasn't been taking questions from his audience since last week, and on Monday made no mention of 1960s radical William Ayers. His campaign has used Obama's ties to Ayers in recent weeks to question the Democratic candidate's character and judgment.
The charge did come up, however, when country music star Hank Williams Jr. played a warm-up act at a Palin rally in Richmond, Va., Monday. His song lyrics included reference to the "left-wing liberal media" and said the Republican running mates "don't have radical friends to whom their careers are linked."
Speaking in Rochester, N.H., Monday, Joe Biden criticized McCain for launching "new attacks" on Obama.
"John McCain wants to attack Barack Obama," Biden said. "Barack Obama wants to attack America's economic problems. It is that basic. It is that basic right now."
Democratic strategist Jehmu Greene said the offensive audience-member comments don't belong in the race on either side.
"There are fringe elements on all sides of the spectrum, and that's what we're seeing right now," she told FOX News.
But Chip Saltsman, former campaign manager for Mike Huckabee, told FOX News that Obama has not taken the steps McCain has to settle down his supporters and rein in bad behavior.
"Barack Obama needs to come out and say, 'My supporters should not do this'," he said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday called for an investigation into claims that Rep. Tim Mahoney paid $121,000 to a former mistress who worked on his staff and sued him after he threatened her job when she tried to end the relationship.
Mahoney, D-Fla., also called for the probe into his own activities.
Former and current staff aides made the claims to ABC News on Monday. Mahoney won his congressional seat in 2006 after Rep. Mark Foley, a Republican, was forced to resign in the wake of a scandal involving a congressional page.
"I just learned today about the serious allegations concerning Congressman Tim Mahoney," Pelosi said in a statement. "These charges must be immediately and thoroughly investigated by the House Ethics Committee."
According to ABC News, Mahoney, who is married, started an affair with Patricia Allen while campaigning against Foley on a morality platform. Allen came on to his staff after he won the election in 2006, but when complaints about the alleged affair surfaced, Mahoney moved Allen to the campaign staff, aides told the broadcast network.
ABC reported Allen tried to break off the affair after learning Mahoney was supposedly cheating on her and his wife with other women. In response, he threatened her job, ABC reported.
"You work at my pleasure," Mahoney told Allen in a taped Jan. 20, 2008, telephone call played for Mahoney staffers, ABC reported.
House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel spoke to Mahoney in early 2007 about his personal conduct, FOX News confirmed Monday. Emanuel formerly headed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the panel charged with electing Democrats to Congress.
Sources told FOX News that Emanuel did not know the woman was a staff aide or that payments were being offered to her until informed by ABC News.
"Upon hearing a rumor, Congressman Emanuel confronted Congressman Mahoney, told him he was in public life and had a responsibility to act accordingly and appropriately, and urged him to do so. They had no further conversations on this topic," an aide to Emanuel said in a statement.
Asked about the affair, Pelosi earlier said she didn't know anything about the financial settlement.
"This is completely news to me," Pelosi said when pressed on whether the Democratic leadership kept quiet about the affair so as not to hurt his re-election chances.
Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who chairs the DCCC this year, declined to answer a question about Mahoney.
Mahoney is one of the most endangered Democrats in this election cycle.West Palm Beach is a conservative-leaning community that gave Bush an 8-point margin of victory in 2004.
It's widely argued that Mahoney won in 2006 less on his own merit than because of the scandal surrounding Foley. Knowing he'd be in the GOP crosshairs this cycle, Mahoney raised $2.5 million for re-election, but he faces a stiff challenge from Republican Tom Rooney, whose family owns the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Every now and then my sleep is interrupted by intriguing thoughts. Last night was one of those nights. I think "Sunday Night" (in this instance it was deferred to Monday night due to the holiday...) is frequented more often (is that redundant?) because I get more sleep over the weekend....but I digress....
I was thinking of two issues last night. Those were "earmarks" and Question 1. I was thinking mostly about Question 1 and what it would mean if it passed. I really don't think folks would get the satisfaction they expect. I think people are expressing their umbrage at the waste in government and our elected officials penchant for spending in ways we never would in our private lives. Our representatives don't use the same economic rules on Beacon Street that we do on Main Street.....
And we've been listening, during the Presidential fiasco, to talk about who votes for earmarks. You know, who has the political ability to bring home the money that should have stayed at home in the first place? By buying dumbassed stuff no private citizen would ever consider funding if he were spending his own money...
Then a solution hit me:
Reverse the earmarks!!!
What would it be like if we were given just one more page on our income tax form? What if that page allowed us to set the priorities for spending? What if those priorities carried with them the force of law? How cool would that be?
Here's how it would work. We would be allowed to dictate how much of our tax dollars would be allocated for each of a few general areas of government. (I assume a certain percentage would have ot be set for debt service on pre-existing government debts but...) Let's say we could allocate a percentage of our money to national defense, domestic security, foriegn aid, education, welfare, medicaid, research into illnesses, roads and bridges, etc..
Then, the exact dollar amount in each category would be set, and our elected officials couldn't spend above that level...ever...ever...without a declaration of war. Even natural emergencies would require a new vote by us or cuts elsewhere...the development of a "rainy day fund"....
What if a similar plan were put in place in Massachusetts, doing away with national security and foriegn aid, and adding in housing the homeless, and caring for our mentally ill?
I'm thinking I'd be alot happier on April 15th....ya,,that's the ticket!!
Earmark the mothers....
Everyone knows i have coined Barak Obomber for his Foreign Policy of Bombing Pakasistan with out their Permission to Kill Bin Ladin and other Terrorist....But it seems there Little Obombers who are supporters fo Brak Obomber who think his policy is o.k. and should be put in pratice....

Two men arrested in McCain sign burning
Saturday October 11, 2008, 4:21 PM
Two Portland men were arrested today in connection with the early morning burning of a political sign outside a Sellwood neighborhood home.
Kevin C. Robinson and Leslie B. Leudtke, both 25, were being held in the Multnomah County Detention Center. Each is accused of four counts of manufacturing a destructive device and four counts of possession of a destructive device. Leudtke also is accused of reckless burning. They are scheduled to appear in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Monday.
Gene Scrutton, 50, said he was awakened about 1:30 a.m. by a neighbor who telephoned after he saw the 4-feet-by-8-feet McCain campaign sign in Scrutton's front yard on fire. The sign, which is mounted on 12-foot-long 4-by-4s, is about five feet from the home where Scrutton and his wife, Karen, have lived for 32 years.
Karen Scrutton, 50, was asleep in the room directly behind the sign and woke up when a burning bottle thrown at the sign hit one of the posts and set it on fire, he said. The devices were Pacifico beer bottles stuffed with gasoline-soaked rags, he said.
The neighbor saw a man trying to light the bottom of the sign on fire with a second burning device, he said. One of the men dropped a third, unlighted device and the two ran when the neighbor yelled, Scrutton said.
Scrutton grabbed his garden hose and put out the blaze, then called 9-1-1 to report the incident.
"They were obviously out to intimidate me," Scrutton said. "But someone easily could have been hurt or killed or my house burned down" if the thrown device had hit the house.
He said his wife was sleeping in the chair because she is recovering from an injury and may not have been able to escape a house fire.
Portland Fire & Rescue investigated the incident.

I wrote a piece "MAN OH MAN OH MANATEE" Where I said it was a mistake to move the 1000 lb. manatee from Cape Cod Bay. The responses were such, that I decided to delete that entry. That was a big mistake on my part. One remark I wrote was this move could be more stressful than it being in the cold water. I was called an idiot and not knowing what I wrote about. They loaded Dennis (who he became known as) on to a truck and was going to move him the 20 hours to Seaworld. Like a slab of Flounder in your fishmonger's case the journey began. As a mammal they said that just pouring a bucket of water over him every now and than would be sufficient. Wrong! Just a few hours into this trek Dennis was dead. Why must these people with all they're so called brains keep interfering with Mother Nature? Remember when they tried to redirect the dolphins from beaching themselves? They just did it somewhere else. We don't know why these great creatures of the seas do what they do. I agree with some that think it is the sonar from our Naval Ships. Stop Naval activity? Impossible! With that being said, we must be prepared for our ocean realitives to do what they do. Poor, Poor, Dennis a victim of our trying to play God once again.....

Initial camera tests show no signs of breaks in the main sewer lines leaving all to continue to guess as to where the leak is coming from.
Residents are still uneasy as to the lack of clean up or attention being paid to this diseased area as more and more children and adults are being diagnosed with various GI, resipiratory and other illnesses. Over the past 72 hours alone, after a bout of warm weather, 8 children and 5 adults were diganosed with sinus, respiratory and other infections. Coincidence? Some think not.
One would think with the following preliminary test results more efforts of clean up would be underway. Residents still concerned as no officials from either the town or state level have informed them of potential dangers of the situation OR what to do to keep themselves safe. You be the judge and tell us what you would think if these results were found in your backyard!
Residents were told standard ecoli rate to be 240 for a brook/stream. While one result of 8,400 may be scary, what is of more concern is what the remaining 63600 coliform counts may contain!

The fact is, Taxes are a necessary evil. There would be no Government Services if there were no taxes. So then, the question becomes, “How much Government is needed, and what Government Services are actually required to keep it all happening?” But, more importantly, “How much Government is too much?”
I recently posted a thread entitled "FUNNY THING ABOUT POLITICIANS" with a list of forty-eight Taxes that were not on our law books one hundred years ago. How many of those taxes are actually required to operate the Government?
Economics is not really so complicated in reality. It gets complicated only when little intricacies and details of hypothetical issues are discussed.
First off, I feel obliged to offer the First Rule of Economics, since so few Americans have even a foggy notion of what it is.
¡¡ TANSTAAFL !!
There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch!! If you received any thing at no cost to you, it can only be that someone other than yourself paid the price. (The air we breathe is one of the few exceptions.)
CORPORATIONS DO NOT PAY TAXES!! Corporations are Fictitious Entities created by Lawyers for the purpose of avoidance of personal accountability by those persons who operate Business. Seldom are individuals held culpable for the errors of a Corporate Structure. Taxes levied against the earnings of a Corporation are factored into “The Cost Of Doing Business” and passed on to the Consumer.
“A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”
Another thread I recently posted, entitled "NO THREAT REQUIRED" is a paradoxical description of the tactics of many politicians, most especially those who “champion” “Socially Progressive” programs. Yet, the promises of said “Socially Progressive” programs are seldom made real.
Isn't it strange that the same folk who vote so faithfully, time and again, for the broken promises of Government Programs are the same folk who play the Lottery with their children's milk and grocery money? White, Black, Latino . . . makes no difference. They continue to hope for the free lunch; they refuse to let go of that which has taken them captive . . . that which has stolen their Human Dignity and will deliver them as beggar slaves to the Dealers of Power and Control.

Folks, lets take a step back and reflect for just a second. Our banks in this country were robbed of their assets. The robber did not present a gun at the counter but a mortgage loan at a bank officer’s desk. In this case the bank was also in on the robbery. The bank was coerced by politicians and community organization groups like ACORN to write these loans. They had a gun of sorts to their heads in the form or threats by both politicians and community groups.
Let’s not blame Wall Street for this mess. The source is the bad paper that was sold to investors at various risk levels. The bad paper got laundered as it went UP the investment chain. At the top level the investors had no idea how bad the paper was because they had no idea of the financial status of all the original mortgagees.
This whole mess was a CON filled with deception in the name of do-gooders. But in fact it was a BANK ROBERY. Banks were forced to do things that they otherwise would never had done if the pressure was not on them to make these bad loans.
In the end the American People are all being ROBBED. Our net worth is plummeting like a rock and we are expected to pay the price for this robbery over the remainder of our lifetime.
Your thoughts?
A sense of grievance spilling into rage has gripped some GOP events this week as McCain supporters see his presidential campaign lag against Obama. Some in the audience are making it personal, against the Democrat. Shouts of "traitor," "terrorist," "treason," "liar," and even "off with his head" have rung from the crowd at McCain and Sarah Palin rallies, and gone unchallenged
mccain has turned his rallies in to a want to be lynch mob . ignorance and group mentality is what is wrong with the world today . and he goes about his rallies continuing to promote hate, and fear . clearly john mccain has slipped a few knotches down in the ethics, and morals catagory. and palin is right there by his side spreading the same message of fear and hate. Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket.
Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report to a bipartisan panel that looked into the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain. so the bottom line in the trooper gate scandle is Ethics investigation finds Palin abused power. the biggest disapointment in american politics right now other then k street is sarah palin, and john mccain sinking to new lows It is one thing to be upset because you,re losing the election , It is another all together to promote fear, hate, racial discrimination, and total ignorance in any capacity or forum.obama is the greatest choice to lead us out of the messes of the broken ,unethical, outrageous biest policies of the bush addministration. and the supporters of the bush addministration like john mccain, sarah palin, and many other republicans who never considered the hard working middleclass americans while making these rash decisions. It is time for the democrats to come in and clean up this mess.
Recently someone gave advice that the educating buying of stocks is not a gamble. EMC was given as an example. Well it is not looking good for EMC stock. Be careful with the stock market, this is new ground we are on. Buying low can be buying stupid at this time.
As U.S. stocks continue to struggle under seemingly unrelenting selling pressure, tech-sector heavyweight EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) plunged today into single-digit territory for the first time in more than two years. In fact, EMC earlier fell to $9.35, its lowest price since August 2004. However, today's losses are simply an extension of the stock's long-term trend -- EMC has steadily declined since November 2007 under pressure from its 10-month and 20-month moving averages.
Second paragraph from AOL.
It keeps getting worse for John McCain.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Oct 10) - Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket. Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report by a bipartisan panel that investigated the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain. The above from AOL.
