It's now been a few days since Mitt Romney gave his Checker's speech.  Oh I'm sorry that's the wrong President, he was trying to imitate a different President.  Although a little more like Nixon wouldn't be a bad idea.   Mr. Romney speaking on his Mormonism didn't do that.  He  said Mormon once in almost 30 min.  He took the free air time  to give us more of a history lesson.   With the Flags of the U.S. behind him (and that one big beautiful flag) He tried to convince me and the millions of others that he is the best man to be our next President.  I find it ironic how he's going to take us to better times making the speech from the Library of the father who brought us to where we are today.  A bankrupt United States of America  both fiscally and spiritually.  Being introduced by George the First making it clear that this was not an endorsement. Did you see how Mama Babs  looked lovingly up to him.  (Mitt) Almost like a son.  To paraphrase he made it clear he would answer to no  one religion.  He gave a big plug to the faith of his Father.  Did you know his father's father had five wives.  Did you know that Blacks were not admitted to the Church till the mid 70's, did you know the inferior role the women till this day play.  He didn't say that or alot  of other things.  If ever given the chance to see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir  please do.  Specially this time of year.  They are truly wonderful and spectacular.  The one odd thing you will notice in the sea of white faces,  is I think two black singers.  They should have not had any blacks, it would not have been so noticeable.  I know you folks reading this will find it hard to believe,  but you are just a small block of  people who like him.

From this day forward,  I pledge to you  I will no longer mention  Mormon in the same sentence  with Mitt Romney.  I will judge him solely on his record and him as a man.  I will no longer make fun of anything to do with the  Mormon Faith or Church. I am sorry if in the past I was rude to the People who are Mormon.  I still believe that we are " ONE NATION UNDER GOD"  and  The phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST"  are what sets the USA apart from any other country in the world.    Growing up in a Jewish home  we had many traditions handed down to us from my Grand Parents.  They weren't so much that they were Jewish Traditions,  but Eastern European.   Yes in our births, weddings, even deaths are Jewish Traditions. I even had a Bar-Mitzvah as did my brothers.  My parents taught us first and foremost we are Americans. If anyone would ask what are you, we were told to say "I am an American". As a little boy I once asked my mother if there was such a person as Jesus Christ.  She could have told me anything at that point and I would have trusted it to be the truth.  What she did however say was READ AND MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND. I did.  I have come to believe in the story of Jesus.  I find his life and death fascinating. In my bedroom hangs a picture I bought at the Museum of Fine  Art depicting the birth of Christ and his travels to Bethlehem.  I love that picture. Do I believe He was the Son of God?  I won't answer that right now.  I do however feel he has no place in politics.  Like it or not, there are to many people that don't believe, and their feelings need to be respected.  Our Forefathers did make mention of God,  but I don't recall any doctrine that mentions Jesus.  So I may have taken a long way around to saying this, but in his speech, Mr Romney offended  alot of people in his bringing up  Jesus.  So tuff you say.  Well we will see if people want him.  Let the race begin!

Feel free to define 3 of JFK's policies you agree with and 3 of Mitt's policies you disagree with.....

Let's get specific.

First of all, when I said he's no JFK, that was in regards to the speech he made. I was 9 years old when JFK died. I do know the Cuban missile crisis was a big event. The Space program had alot to do with him. And Marilyn Monroe was a good lover for him. Mitt, his stand on womans rights to choose. His view on homosexuality. His forever perfect grey. sideburns. Policy wasn't what this blog was about. I was waiting for one of you guys to find this. Did you have a nice week-end? That's nice.

JFK's biggest policy decision was to oppose Communism, and totalitarianism world wide. The "Cuban Missile Crisis" was not only a big event. For those of us old enough to understand, we sat and wondered if we'd be alive the next day. We waited...and we feared. JFK staired both fidel Castro, and the USSR down. They blinked first. He had set up a military embargo...a Naval blockade. We were on the brink of WORLD WAR..NUCLEAR WAR. Iraq, or VietNam fr that matter, pale by comparison to what we were expoecting.

He made George bush look like a pantywaist....

That being said...NO ONE is JFK. No candidate has the nerve to stand up and risk what he did. And folks like you don't have the strength to support if if someone did.

JFK was also no Mitt romney. He had no business sense. He had no experience managing money. He had no experience in governing. He was a rich kid who had had a Senate seat bought for him.

His family values and personal ethics stunk. He was one tough SOB, but behind that he had little. His election was purchased from organized crime. He then let his brother attack the very people who got him elected. (The attack was correct, the purchase was not). He, and that brother, probably died as a result of that decision.

Mitt. on the othr hand, is ethical. He is accused of "flip flopping", when what he did was compromise in a state where any veto he penned would have been overridden in a nano-second. He MADE HIS IDEALS WORK in a climate void of ideals...Massachusetts.

Jengis...comment?

I truly believe that if we were to simply respect each other's religious preference and encourage worship -- whether that be 5 times per day, 3 times per day, once a week on Sunday -- or however -- rather than "dice & slice" each other's theology -- we would form a Smile on the Face of God.

Moreover, whatever many wives Mitt's 5th GGfather married -- how is that unlike the biblical experience of the ancients -- when Jews also, among the cultures of the time, had multiple wives -- and were Divinely instructed to properly honor them?

CORRUPTION is what sours the biblical experience, not the sincere, honest attempt to practice (with God, Alone as Judge) as one interprets. I'm not necessarily pro-poligamy -- however, I judge not and only hope that I please my Maker....

Fenway, First of all, I guantee you do not know ANY mormon woman to say we are treated inferior. Mormon woman VOTED before anyone in the US. 2nd--do you know how hard it is to get into the Mormon Tab Choir?? You have to commit to several hours a week, prove you can blend-not be a stand out 'solo' voice, read music perfectly, etc, etc. Go on their site and see. It has nothing to do w/color. If the MTC was set in Africa, (which is the fastest growth in the church right now) you'd be complaining there are very few white faces. If it was set in Sweden....get my drift? 3rd--your jewish fathers also had polygamist wives.
and 4th--Mitt knows it is a losing battle to talk about his religion as everyone has different beliefs. That's the problem. People don't want to know about our church--they want to fight about it. Mitt's church isn't on trial. Read our history. We've been down this path before and this is not new. One of my ancestors had both her legs cut off at the knee after she walked across the plains in the snow to get to Utah, so she could worship w/o being persecuted. There is nothing wrong w/having Faith in something higher than yourself and giving credit to your Maker. If Mitt mentioning Jesus offends people, so be it.

Hi Dramamama, I find it very interesting that yesterday we were discussing Marilyn from the Munsters and today Mitt Romney and the Mormon and Jewish faiths. First of all, I forgot where I wrote it, but I apologized for bringing religion into this. Second, I made a vow not to mention the Mormon church and Mitt Romney in the same sentence. I was quoting a site that according to Captain was wrong. Third, Jewish polygamy was outlawed around the year 1000. Technically Jewish law says a man can take on another wife, if his wife becomes incapacitated. The only catch to that is that he has to have the approval of 100 Rabbi's ffrom3 different countries. He also has to find a state it is legal in. Like I said I will no longer stereotype the Mormon Faith. And last but certainly not least, how about if I just say I don't like Mitt Romney. As a Gay man, I don't think he is to thrilled with me either.

This is my semi annual profile update. Live in the West Fenway section of Boston with my cat Daisy (pictured). Came to Ma. about 30 years ago from Nu Yawk. If we had a conversation you would think I just got off the boat. I lived in Waltham, Bedford, Lowell and now Boston. Never ever was a sports fan in NY. My family hates that I am now a dedicated Red Sox Fan. I was in the Navy, I drove a Taxi in NY, I worked for the VA, and now have a disability retirement from the Post Office. I am a Jewish, Gay man in my mid 50's. I am a registered democrat who has voted for Nixon and Reagan and I don't care what you think about my social or political views.
