fenwaydav's Blog

I was reading a fellow blogger and his thoughts on how Mr. Huckabee's past is catching up with him.   I was going to write in and as I was doing so, I said Fenwaydav you have a blog of your own here.  No matter how you feel about Huckabee,  I'm sure what I am about to write will not get the approval of alot of you. And as always I have to say  TO BAD.

I write the following as a Liberal and a Democrat.  In itself a dirty word or two.  I was honestly looking at Huckabee as a possible alternative.  With what's come out about him in the recent weeks I am pretty sure that won't be happening.  Today I saw his latest commercial.  I was kind of blind sided by what he had to say.   I also have to say that I am para phrasing.  In it, a sweater clad Huckabee is talking about the Christmas Season,  and say's that WE are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.  I don't know who he was speaking to, but it certainly wasn't  to this Jew.

I have spoke about the Holiday season in some of my Blogs.  A Christmas Tree should be a Christmas Tree.  God should remain in the Pledge of Allegiance.  This crap that some civil liberties groups are saying what should be in and what should be out  is, well CRAP.  But Huckabee on National Television  saying WE are celebrating the Birth of Christ Is wrong.  May you and He.  But this is one case where I think The line has to be drawn.

I am not saying he shouldn't believe and maybe even talk about Christ, but not in this forum.  In this instance he is leaving to many people out. In my humble  opinion I almost feel like he  I using Christ, like Obama used Oprah,  and Hilliary used Her Mother and Daughter.  This has been one weird campaign season and I for one am glad it's coming to a end.  Well kind of.  It's been going on almost since Bush took office.  It's almost like the Christmas Season itself.  Every year the sales start earlier.  Next year it maybe Labor day!  I didn't mean to offend anyone.  I do truly love the season and all it stands for.

I saw that commercial and said to myself there is going to be trouble with this one. Christmas music playing and colored lights in the background is one thing but actually saying we are celebrating the birth of Christ doesn't sit well with me. he could have done the same thing differently. To tell the truth I don't think he is playing to a national crowd. I think he is playing to a christian base in Iowa. either way I happen to agree with you on this one, but I don't think many other's will.

I haven't seen the ad, but Huckabee hasn't been secretive about the fact that he's courting Christians. It's a gamble, sure, but his poll numbers are still strong - maybe it's working!

I think people are to easily offended. I thought it was a nice commercial, then all the pundents starting dissecting it. Even Dramamama objected to it saying he was a modern day Pharisee.(Being righteous in public so all can see) Saying it was contrived. If it was contrived which many think, and insincere and made just to get votes from Christians. Thats not good. But I did like the message. It's not going to get me to vote for him though. I'm glad be believes in Christ and Christian principles thats important to me, but thats just a base line for long time thinling Christains. How is he in other areas, Mitts the man for me, he's got all the qualities that make a great president.

Captain, I'm glad Dramamama is on my side with this. Don't get me wrong it was a very nice message. I was watching one of those political news shows and even a supporter of his thought it had no place as a political ad. It's getting close and everyone is dissecting everything. Mitt Romney's tears the other day, People riped that apart. I thought it was kind appropriate for the situation of which it happened. That was disscected as phony.

I agree with your wife Captain, he really does (to me at least) come across as a Pharisee. What upsets me about Huckabee is not that speaks openly about his faith, and the advertisement wishing people a Merry Christmas is not itself offensive. What aggrivates me about Huckabee and the candidacy he is running is that is WHOLE campaign is basically "I'm a Christian, vote for me." He has offered no vision for the future, he hasn't put forth any vision of what his policies will be, both domestic and foreign. He has not talked about the role of government in American society. His whole campaign the last month or so has literally been "I believe in Jesus Christ, so you should vote for me." While that is certainly nice, it isn't enough to elect a President.

You know I just listened to VB'S blog. It never occurred to me about the Moving Cross. Now watching it, I think the Jesus part may be secondary. I can't believe I missed it and I can't believe I think maybe it was a coincidence.

I see your point Humble and it resonates with me. It's kinda the same thing as using the Lords name in vain. You don't have to swear to take it in vain. This could be another way of offending the Lord using his name in vain to get political milage only.

Fenway,

I am sick of all political commercials, period. If I have to see Hillary Clinton "standing up for working people" (i.e. standing next to some guy who appears to be on the job), Mitt Romney saving his business partner's daughter, or Obama "telling people what they need to hear" one more time, I am going to toss my cookies. Enough is enough. I just keep thinking how those millions of advertising dollars could feed hungry kids, or help families of children being treated at St. Jude's Hospital.
