I am sitting here thinking, I don't remember anytime in my life when things seemed so urgent.  Why? What's different now? There are several things that make 2008 different than any other election year.  Lets start with the most obvious.   It's the first time in history that we have a Woman and a African American seeking the highest office in our land.  They are both Democrats and Conservatives don't like either one of them.  I wonder if one or both were Republicans that would change.  Well they are not and that in itself  will cost them votes.  (In this neck of the woods anyway)  What else is going on?  How about a very unpopular war.  I can recall another unpopular war a few decades ago.  Not the same.  This time it's not the hippies that are calling for an end.  This time people from 18 to 88 are saying enough is enough. I heard a report the other night.  It was talking about how the Surge has helped.  The person was crowing "ONLY 25 AMERICAN SOLDIERS DIED LAST MONTH".   Only?  Why should anyone die?  When is the United States of America going to stop being the worlds baby sitter?  So there is another reason this year is so important.  My support goes with the person who says lets get out of Iraq.  (NOW)  Some other things that make this year different I think is the Internet.  More than ever people know things and are paying attention more than ever before.   And last but not least the most important thing this year is that we will finally rid ourselves of 8 years of a Administration that didn't listen to the people.  An administration that in my opinion was slightly better than a dictatorship.  It's important this year that you do your homework.  It's important this year if you have child voting for the first time you stress how important it is to do so.  It's important this year because more than any time in history we try to get it right.  Things are changing quickly.  The person I thought I was going to vote for may not be around in November, but neither is yours.  Have a back up plan.  And if you like to complain like I sometimes do, you have to VOTE.

How could you possibly believe that this is a useless war?!

Really! The soldiers sacrifice is awful. With all due respect it's better to die on the field of battle than to die in your office building because of some wing nut religious freak flying a plane into your place of work. Are our memories so short (8 years of bubba seemed to erase a lot of memory) that besides the WMD debacle that original cease fire of the gulf war was never honored by Sadam and never up held by bubba.
What part of a muslim world at your lifes expense do you not understand!

Mike, First of all get down off your high horse. As an ex-navy man, who served during Vietnam, everything Bush brought us into this war for, was a lie. Yes what ever did happen to those WMD? Time and time again it's been proven and discussed neither Saddam Husein or the Iraq people had nothing to do with 9/11. I have never and would never talk bad of our Soldiers. But to say things are getting better and say ONLY 25 died last month is not a success. When was the last time you had a uniform on? We don't belong there We never did and we need to get out now. That is not saying anything bad of our military. If you feel good about bashing the Clinton's fine do so it's your God given right as an American. But if I believe Bush and his cronies are war criminals that is my God given right as an American also. Muslims aren't to blame for where we are today. Bush is!

This is my semi annual profile update. Live in the West Fenway section of Boston with my cat Daisy (pictured). Came to Ma. about 30 years ago from Nu Yawk. If we had a conversation you would think I just got off the boat. I lived in Waltham, Bedford, Lowell and now Boston. Never ever was a sports fan in NY. My family hates that I am now a dedicated Red Sox Fan. I was in the Navy, I drove a Taxi in NY, I worked for the VA, and now have a disability retirement from the Post Office. I am a Jewish, Gay man in my mid 50's. I am a registered democrat who has voted for Nixon and Reagan and I don't care what you think about my social or political views.
