This story is in no way going to tell you what former Gov. of N.Y.  Eliot Spitzer did was right.   It wasn't!    There are a lot of loser's here,  least of  which is Eliot Spitzer.  How would you feel if you were one of the 2 teen age daughters, not to mention  his wife.   I can hear some say, "He  made that choice".  Yes he did.  What I need to talk about is other issues.   No,  I won't go into the details of how a second hooker came forward and brought to light that Mr. Spitzer like to use toys and didn't like to use condoms.  The last I heard neither one of those things are law breaking offences.

The biggest worry to me is how all this came to light.  To quote a line from the New York Post,  "the feds  began investigating after Spritzers BANK tipped them about irregularities in an account that he used for his sex romps".   This account wasn't a New York State account, it was a personal one.  He never used money from any NY accounts.   Why would a bank feel the need to do this?  Was there concern he was using the money for drug deals?  I don't think so.   Someone from his bank was being nosey.  Someone from his bank  felt the need to go beyond their 13 dollar an hour pay and play detective.  Do we all have to worry about our bank transactions.   If I take out five hundred  dollars in one shot will it look like more than just the fact I'm going on vacation and want cash on hand.   This was all brought to the light of day because some bank teller decided to play cop.   Be careful out there cause now we have to worry about something new.  I don't mind if the bank calls me to tell me some irregularities are appearing in my account, I do worry now they may go to the FBI.

As long as "Enquiring" minds want to know, they'll be someone to tell them...

How does "MY" personal life afect someone that bad?I agree with your statements above. But the real problem is that he was a public offical. He was elected to run the state of NY.The Gov. of NY.As we all know, looking at hollywood. They can't go to the can without the media following with cams blinking.Being in the public eye is accepting that you will be watched every moment of you life.No matter what you do.I just hope it doesn't get that bad when the election are over and no news to be reported.

Fenway,

I work at a bank and I can tell you it's a little more complicated than that. As a person of prominence, he is watched more closely than the regular American. Reason being is that the rules of money laundering have detected that figures in roles like his are more apt to and more able to commit crimes. Now, let's say that this whole mess had nothing to do with prostitution and that Spitzer was funding some criminal activities? Just as an example. This person or people at his bank that noticed the unusual activity are required by law to report something doesn't seem right. If they do not and it turns out that he is involved in criminal activity, they face jail time just as much as him. It sucks, but he would have had to have been making some very unusual moves to raise suspicion. I assure you if you take out $500 bucks from your account no one at the bank is going to bat an eyelash. If this was the case, he was moving money around in a way that was very suspicious probably in the attempt to hide it from his wife and others.

Well, maybe if Mr. Spitzer had behaved himself, he wouldn't have had to worry about being "kicked" at all!!!! It doesn't matter that he was a public figure. What does matter is that he committed an(actually--many) illegal act(s)!!!!!!! Like anyone else, he deserves whatever he gets. He should have thought before he acted!!! NO sympathy here!!!! I can assure you--if that was my husband, he wouldn't have to worry about any legal punishment--he would have to deal with the wrath of me, and NOTHING would be worse than that!!!!!

Maybe I am wrong to think how much more through the mud we should drag this man. I started off by saying what he did was wrong. I personally think it's a moral issue not a legal one. Maybe I am wrong to have feelings for his daughters and wife, not to mention his mother. June, never having the money Mr. Spitzer has I didnt think about the things you mention. The thousands he was tossing around, seemed liked the hundreds I might have been. I should be so lucky. I guess this is the price we pay for fame.

June,
I may be wrong however, from what I heard,
ifI was to go to thebank and deposit
say $1000.00 dollars into my account then repeat that for the next two days, same amount,
$1000.00 a red flag wouldpop up and the IRS
would probobly show up at my door.

The man did messup on the home front.Agreed?
But as a public offical he is under the microscope like someone from hollyweird.
If you have your face in the limelight, you are automaticly gonna be watched.Look at the news
on fox, msnbc, etc with so many out there.

I know what you mean, Fenway. I too feel like "ok, ok...he's scum....we know it....he's lost everything now....let's just move on and let the proper authorities take care of it."

I know during my drug and alcohol days, I brought shame and embarrassment to my family and friends. I thank God it was kept within my little group. I cringe every time I think of what my family must have went through. I can't imagine if what I did was a public matter. I speak publicly about my journey, by choice.

FreeAmerica, I wish I could help or have a solution. I have neither. I do find it curious that you asked me to read your bio and blog. You said something about NH being so free. I guess nothing is free. If you are a Veteran, have you tried the DAV or other vet organizations. It's beyond me Sorry....

legend,

I would say that's not true. All the training I've received has never said, suggested or insinuated that something like that would happen based on the scenario you describe. Like I said earlier, the movement of money would have had to be highly unusual BUT ALSO, the movements of money is different from individual to individual. What may be considered unusual for you won't necessarily be considered unusual for say, Fenwaydav. It's very detailed and pretty complex and not a one size fits all type of thing. I can assure you of that. Now....will it change in the future with the way things are going in this country....who knows. No one knows what are future is going to look like and frankly, I don't feel to giddy about finding out. But right now and for the forseeable future, I certainly wouldn't worry.

Spitzer getting what he deserves. If the teller is doing their job by reporting the activity then let them do it. There shouldn't be a problem if there is nothing to hide, in his case I guess there was. If he is doing that kind of stuff to his family that he "loves" what will he do to the state all in the name of self gratification.

Tom, if people read my blog, in no way am I condoning what this man did. My original thought was leave him alone already. Yes he is a public figure. Yes he made whoopie with a prostitute. The man has millions and I will bet my life N.Y. State funds were never used. He made some bad choice's. He payed with the lose of his job and probally family. June says the bank was doing what was right. I trust and believe June. I still sounds to Big Brotherish to me. Least we not forget a certain President who supposedly had someone under his desk while he was conducting U.S. affairs. Like I mentioned above (and several other blogs) about my own indiscretions. Thank God people were able to forgive me for some of the horrible things I did in my life. They have not forgot and they should not, but I don't have it thrown in my face every day of my life. Even though I rectified my wrongs (the best I could), I will carry to the grave some of the hurt I have caused. I hope you who are saying good for him, can look back on your pure life and see no sin.

What Spitzer did with his monetary transactions was structuring. The bank teller didn't DECIDE to play detective. It is that tellers job to report certain transactions to her security officer. What was once called the 10,000.00 rule evolved into smaller amounts of cash.
Back in my banking days we were required to spend hours in training pertaining to what transactions were o.k. and what we were required by LAW to report.
Fenwaydave., we have all done things that we are embarrased about. We would all say that we are happy that it didn't make the front pages. This guy prosecuted people for doing things just like he was doing. He is/was a public figure and frankly deserves whatever punishment he gets.
As for his wife and daughters, I feel for them too bad he didn't.
