I wrote a piece earlier and decided I didn't want to hear all the grief I was sure I was going to get so I deleted it.  I am referring to the firefighter who was out on a disability.  He may not have been disabled enough for a permanent disability, but he sure has heck is now.  The mental distress of his posing almost naked body and people in the media judging him would surely make me a basket case.  I would even be afraid for my life.  This issue is between him and the Fire Department.   For weeks we had to endure that blurry video has made me a mental case.  Leave the guy alone.   Will the press be happy to report his suicide? There are better stories out there like a man playing with ladies feet.

The thing is Dave - while I appreciate your sympathy and compassion - this story doesn't really require a person to "judge" this guy. He said he was disabled, then we all saw him in that video. You don't need to put anything on a scale here. Anyone who can be in a bodybuilding contest is NOT disabled; period. ...No ambiguity...no conjecturing required!
But I certainly appreciate your concern for the fact that the lynch-mob could drive him to suicide. I certainly have no desire to string him up by his kiwis or anything like that...
I'm just not a fool, which, apparently this guy MUST be.

Dave, he is the lightning rod for the general public's disdain for the growing "cottage industry" we call disability. He has just done it on a grander scale, and is receiving a grander response. There are consequences, my friend...there are consequences. One of them is public disdain.

Barbell-boi ain't contemplating suicide, he's conferring with his lawyer to figure out how to "re-milk the cow."

Apparently, Chip's been tapping his phone-?

...Sooooooo judgmental...

That's why it keeps comin' back around and whackin' you in the head, Chip. You keep sending it out there.

Of course, you'll spin this to say that I'm defending the guy, when actually all I'm doing is saying that you have absolutely no way of knowing that he's "conferring with his lawyer..."
-That's clear-cut judgment. Because fenway could be 100% correct on his emotional state. It would behoove you to quit giving reports of what shoes - which you've never walked in - feel like.

For once, Graham_cracker, on this one you are right. I am judging him. I have judged him to be a lousy firefighter. I am predicting/inferring he is one the phone with his lawyer, too.

I actually have a right to do that, based on the Constitution. But more so, I have a 25 year career in the fire service, culminating in being Chief of Department for 7. During that career, I taught at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, in the lst decade as one of the instructors who taught the advance "Fire Officer" courses.

I have a knowledge and experience base to make judgements.

NOW, here's the funnier thing...during that whole time (remember, I was a "ca;l chief") I worked at a whole seperate career...in Mental Health...I am also expert on the behavioral and symptomatic predictors of suicide...ya kinda have to be. Not knowing that is kinda like an electrician who doesn't know enough to turn off the power....someone ends up dead. In 35 years (knock wood), I have never lost a patient to suicide.

AND, here's the funniest thing...throughout both careers, I made judgement, both about situations and people. I make no apologies for that. In fact I am deeply proud of the judgements I made. In both professional ends of my life a huge number of people's lives are better. Fact....

You giving good service as a "desk clerk"?

LOL!

Do you think it makes you look good to rag on my job like some kind of elitist snob?

I'm not a "desk clerk," anyway. My official title is actually even more humbling; it's "night porter." It's an unusual position because it's actually part janitor, part manager, part security guard, and part concierge. It pays very well after 14 years of doing it, because - yes (to answer your question) - I have given legendary service.

But go ahead...keep on bragging on yourself. Self-aggrandize all you wish. You do it all the time, hence making it crystal clear that you're a very insecure little man who requires talking himself up (and talking others DOWN) just to get through his day...how spectacular...really something to brag about.

...Good to see that maybe Chip's finally learning when he should retreat...
