Mama Mia!  Did they destroy a movie.  I'll be the first to admit,  I alike Abba.   Sorry.... The show Mama Mia on Broadway was a cute little mindless live action musical with Abba's songs.

Now they come along and the movie Mama Mia with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan.   Up till now I couldn't see Meryl Streep do no wrong.  Lucky for her this isn't her first movie, cause it might be a career ender.  A year ago when I heard they were working in Greece on this movie I had my doubts.  I don't understand, with all the great musical talent out there why they chose the cast they did.  Pierce Brosnan singing, sounds like he is having a prostrate exam.  I saw Meryl Streep on David Letterman not to long ago.  She was promoting this piece of trash.  She didn't sound very convincing about her love for this movie.   If you have seen a live version of Mama Mia, don't go thinking that is what you will be seeing.  If you have not seen the live version, don't let this keep you from seeing it.

I have not seen the stage play, because:
A) I don't care for the story line
B) Seems like a juke box musical
C) my theater friends tell me it's junk

I might go see the movie to see Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, and Pierce Brosnan, though I DO wonder why they don't get people who sing professionally.....

D.M., I don't (didn't) pay attention to the story line, like I said I like ABBA. Meryl Streep got her start in Musical theater back in the year one. I don't remember. Bring ear plugs, there is alot of screaming, and most of that is from the audience whose ears are being violated.

Fenway,
I just bought tickets to go see Tale of Two Cites, opening on Broadway next month. Apparently it's getting good reviews from it's run in FL

That is going to be a great trip. What theater is it going to be in? I am looking forward to the movie version of Brideshead Revisited. I never saw it on TV, but it looks good with Emma Thompson.

It's in the Hirshfeld theater which is a small theater, as I saw 'Curtains' there. Brideshead is ONLY showing in Newton. I guess the public can't handle intelligent movies. Emma Thompson is always good.
A Tale of Two Cites is an epic musical, ala Les Miz. Hope it delivers. They are advertizing $79 tickets, so we jumped on it. Going 10/18-- matinee. They have clips of it on www.playbill.com. Great cast too.

Pardon my "brutish" ignorance, but I saw the trailer for Brideshead and I first thought, "This looks exactly like Atonement."

So... how wrong am I?

I haven't seen Atonement, nor Brideshead, so i can't answer. I just happen to enjoy british dramas.

Jeff, You may be right about the two looking alike. I hope Brideshead is half as good as Atonement was. I loved it. Speaking of looking alike, DM A tale of Two Cities clip looked like a British version of Les Miz. I may run out and buy the Soundtrack...

Yes, it looks like 'Les Miz'.
That, tickets for $79, and the fact that I love Charles Dickens, and have a friend who does too, made up jump at buying tickets. I'll let you know if it is going to run 'forever', after I see it. Plus, we might stay in town overnight and see Gypsy. A 'theaterpalooza'.

DM, Patty Lupone one of my favs as Mamma Rose. She was the very first Evita, with Mandy Patinkin as Che. You'll have to let me know how she compares to Rosaline Russell and Ethel Merman.

I have not liked her in years. The last thing Pierce B. has done well was The Thomas Crown Affair. It looked bad, I had no plans of going but thanks for the tip,

I thought you were going to tell me the S.O.S. band was making a come back.
