While we watched John Edwards standing by his wife Elizabeth's side who had been diagnosed with cancer, he was sleeping around with a staff member.  How dare he!  We the public deserve better than this.  This could have been our next President.  As far as I'm concerned he is washed up.  His spit polished good looks and 400 dollar haircuts are history.  Wheither or not he's the father of this love child is not relative.  The act of adultery is a forgivable act to some mere mortals, but he professed to be above that and I for one believed him.

I was at a bachelorette party last week, and we were playing a trivia game. One of the questions was, "Which US President had an affair in the White House?" followed by a list of 4 presidents. We all looked at each other and simultaneously said, "Which one DIDN'T?" The lust for power and influence seem to extend beyond the political arena and into the bedroom. There's never an excuse for infidelity, but for the power-hungry, it's almost a foregone conclusion.

It looks like he set her up in a company to make a few videos.

I wonder how much he paid the other guy to say he is the father.

He is no good.

I had leukemia when I was a little girl and its hard for me to trust guys, how can I trust guys now? If the presidental canidate has an affair while his wife is dying of cancer, how can other female cancer patients and survivors find a good hearted, loving, trusting man? Are you really that much of a coward Edwards, that you had in an affair rather than help and support your sick wife? If you run again I will not vote for you.

Valintyne,
Maybe you should start with GW Bush, GHW Bush, and then Ronald Reagan. Notice any kind of pattern? That's right, they're all Republicans who served without dishonoring the Office.
As for Edwards, he is the lowest form of scum. The problem is some of his followers will find his actions perfectly acceptable. Valintyne, I'm guessing you're with Edwards. What really is troublesome was the MSM's reluctance to cover this story. What does it tell you about our MSM when most outlets are "scooped" by the National Enquirer? And it's not the first time either.

First, I'd just like to say "Hey Val!" Admit it, Valintyne...you take these hiatus' just for the obsequious posts devoted exclusively to you in your absence! LOL

I guess it's way too much to ask that people don't make a big deal of this salacious, tawdry news-story. I feel so badly for his poor wife.

What's more of a foregone conclusion, Val, is that the salivating lynch-mob will swiftly run to unfortunate revelations like these - mostly for all of the wrong reasons.

I'm not a democrat - nor an apologist for cheaters - but I really wish this story would find a speedy demise. It just seems senseless to talk about it for weeks-on-end. Plecch!

Happy, I didn't take what Val wrote to knock the Democrats as you did. I may be wrong, but all through history Presidents have been sleeping around. Ask the offspring of Thomas Jefferson. Than there were the affairs of the Roosevelt's, both FDR and Eleanor (yes Eleanor). And we all know what took place in Clinton's (Bill) White House. Infidelity has know party lines.
Dave, I think this will stick around awhile....

Actually, Happy, I'm about as far from "with" Edwards as can be. I never trust a slick haircut (see JFK). It's certainly true that many recent Republican Presidents have made fidelity as important as we all should. One of the reasons I've never voted Democrat. My observation was more that many men who chase power in public life also chase it in private - it's not so much about lust as it is about power (e.g. Bill Clinton).

And Dave, HEY! I wish my absences were simply for my own self-adulation, but in truth, life's been quite hectic (details are too long and tedious to bore all of you with). It's good to see your voices again! And I'm with you - his poor wife! These political wives who put their hearts, souls, and reputations on the line for their husbands, only to be betrayed...I was thinking of Eliot Spitzer's wife, as well. I'll take my anonymity any day!

It is a bit of a non-story, now that Edwards is out of the running (I never really thought he had a chance anyway), but anyone who outright lies about his sexual affairs while holding himself up as the model of husbandly virtue can't be surprised at the feeding frenzy when the truth comes out.

Good to see ya VAL !
The whole country, except for Edwards knew he had no chance to be president. His bank account is the only thing bigger than his ego !
The U tube video of him checking his hair out, is almost gross. He is so full of himself. He paraded his family around like he was a family man. All I can say is Good bye forever, to another bed wetting liberal elitest !

After re-reading the thread I noticed that it was this passage that led to my post. Not the line I quoted from FenwayDave's original post. I think it was the image of a group of girls sitting around thinking silly thoughts that threw me.

I doubt this will be the last affair with a politician. Whether or not his wife was battling cancer is not the issue--HE IS A MARRIED MAN!!!!!

Married man? Maybe. I think a man who has an arrangement with his wife much like that of Bill and Hillary.
This Edwards guy is slick. I find it very curious that the "other" woman now will not allow a DNA test to take place. Really? Edwards claims he "WANTS" a test but the mommy says know.
Now won't you all just go away? No, this is a perfect story for August. Meaningless and sordid.

Why do all these women who've been publicly humiliated by their husbands stand by them? Just once I'd like to see some spine. Mrs. Edwards should rake him over the coals in court. I guess they don't do anything rash because of the children, which does make sense, but they still don't need to stand next to them holding hands while listening to the sleaze grovel to the public.

Edwards is a lying sack of dung. I wish he was the presumed Democratic nominee right now. That would be so great to watch.

Sad part is what that ambulance chaser did could be a good career move. sad...

I'm not forgiving! My husband knows what would happen to him if he did this! He would NEVER get another good night's sleep--not with both eyes shut--for sure! We would never sleep under the same roof again, either! Stand by my man--not under those circumstances. These guys are always sorry--AFTER they are caught! Maybe they should think BEFORE!!!

So, Maria Stephanos provided a link to your blog here, fenway...but I think we should now move it back up there for the latest discourse.
