What if a Candidate for President was an Atheist? With all the Jibba-Jabba about Obama/Romney's Religon and how it affects their duties as President, why not choose a man who has no Restrictions because of his faith.
Its not as if any president in History has not ordered or had his actions lead to the death/murder of others.  Though Thall Shall Not Kill

I doubt most of the Candidates can name all 10 commandments. I doubt alot of you could without cheating and googling it.
Fox news pull a colbert and ask the Prez Candidates what the 10 commandments are

That clip of Colberts is here by the way

Can anyone tell me what Bill Clinton'church is called? Can anyone tell me how it has affected his being President?

What about John Kerry has his being a Catholic made him a better senator? Or Ted Kennedy? Has he been a good Catholic?

Does it just look good on paper?
But Mark, they dont have Moral Values or the teachings of the bible/torah/Battlefield Earth as a guide. BS. You can use those things as a guide but the doesnt mean you have  believe in them. I've read many books with good guidelines for living a better life, but that doesnt mean I believe that Watership Down is a true story.

Can anyone give me a good reason why not? Anyone?

Religion doesn't matter to me, but the moral values of the Judeo-Christian tradition do. However, just because a person goes toone of those churches, it does not guarantee he follows the teachings...

However...when one belongs to a church, for example, that will not admit Whites as members, it tells me alot about that person's values. I'd not belong to a church that didn't admit Blacks...that value would offend me. I expect the same level of ethics from someone like Barack Obama....and he has fallen short.

So...it just isn't as simple as "elect and atheist" or "elect an Evangelical" or "elect a Buddhist".....

I couldn't resist trying...

Thou shall not kill.
Thou shall not steal.
Thou shall not committ adultery.
Thou shall not covet thy neighbors wife.
Thou shall not covet they neighbors goods.
Thou shall not lie (said differently)
Thou shall keep holy the Lord's day.
I'm 3 short....
help!!!

From 2 Samuel, 23:4;

"'He who rules over men must be just,
Ruling in the fear of God."

When a man allows God to be the pilot of his life, he is fit to rule over men better than any other. A man who does not believe in God, makes the vanity of himself his own God; trusting in the whims of his fleshy nature with no obligation to be honest. Where is his accountability?

Psalm 14 says;

"The fool has said in his heart,
"There is no God."
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good."
(to be continued)

Why is it that so-called "atheists" (of which don't really exist, btw...everyone knows deep-down that God is very real...they only try to convince themselves that he's not to escape accountability to him) have such a difficult time with a man of God becoming president? Why so exclusionary? Why is it that a man of faith should be excluded from the oval office? After all, if you "don't believe" in God, then it really shouldn't matter if a president does...only what his beliefs will cause him to do.
Will the actions of a man of faith automatically go against what you would have him to do just for his belief in God alone?
An atheist can better hide his beliefs as he's only accountable to himself. He could make all of the promises in the world and not bat an eyelash upon breaking every single one of them - what does he care?
The commandment "Thou shalt not murder" is just that. It was never "Thou shalt not kill". Murder is killing a human being unjustly - as in, killing someone God would not put his stamp of approval on. God directs leaders into battle, and encourages us to kill (not murder) "beasts of the field" to eat.

SDo you are saying there are no Atheistts, and that a true Relgious man who was a Politco wouldnt lie. Also you are saying it okay for the Prez to kill someone if he thinks it was what god would want.

“Why is it that so-called "atheists" (of which don't really exist, btw...everyone knows deep-down that God is very real...they only try to convince themselves that he's not to escape accountability to him)”

Lets start with that statement. How arrogant. How intolerant. You might as well says “Jews are just Christians in denial” or “When will those Buddhists give in and admit it’s all sillyness”

“ have such a difficult time with a man of God becoming president? “

Pulls out History books….oh wait EVERY PRESIDENT has been a WHITE Christian MALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Why so exclusionary? Why is it that a man of faith should be excluded from the oval office? After all, if you "don't believe" in God, then it really shouldn't matter if a president does...only what his beliefs will cause him to do.”
What his beliefs cause him to do, I thought a President was supposed to act on the interests of the people not his religion?

?Will the actions of a man of faith automatically go against what you would have him to do just for his belief in God alone?

“?An atheist can better hide his beliefs as he's only accountable to himself. He could make all of the promises in the world and not bat an eyelash upon breaking every single one of them - what does he care?”
So your excuse is a Relgious Man wont lie because he fears god, but an Atheist will because he fears no one. Do I have that right? Also how can an Atheist better hide his beliefs? That’s baseless.

?The commandment "Thou shalt not murder" is just that. It was never "Thou shalt not kill".
Whose Bible are we

"Psalm 14 says;

I was under the impression that Christian theology accepted the good works of those who do not believe in your Lord, such as Gandhi and Confucius...even going so far as to offer many of them redemption in Purgatory. You're stating that literally no one who does not believe in your deity can do anything but spread abomination? Is that a categorical imperative you're really willing to stand behind?

More to the point, why would you want to worship a god who is so exclusionist? If God (and I use the capital 'G' here to denote the specific god depicted in Christian theology) is truly omniscient, should He not be able to discern the goodness inherent to these individuals? Shouldn't He be able to tell that their lack of faith is motivated by a differing paradigm, not evil? If God is truly a god, He should be able to understand that everyone isn't exposed to the teachings which are supposedly derived from his own tutelage.

What about the mentally retarded, who are unable to conceptualize the concept of a deity through no fault of their own? Christian theology states that the Judeo-Christian god shaped man in his image: if these retarded individuals were not intended to be in their current state by God, He is not omnipotent or omniscient. If you accept that he is omnipotent and omniscient, you must also accept that these individuals are retarded because it is God's will. These individuals cannot believe. Does i

#1 - Isn't someone's lack of faith a belief in itself? How would that belief affect a potential president?

#2 - Just because someone is mentally disabled does not automatically mean that they are incapable of making such a decision. Some may not be able to verbalize what they are trying to say, but you never know what is going on inside. Maybe God makes some mentally disabled in order to affect other people's lives. I have been touched by many people with disabilities and I am sure that others have as well. Look that "Team Hoyt" - the father who enters the Iron Man competition with his son in tow. Anyone who has seen that footage has surely gotten goosebumps and some prospective.

So if McCain stepped up tomorrow and said "I've just never been a very religious man, I believe in Judo-Christian Values but I'm not going to let Religious Doctrine define my Presidency, thank you and good night"

Would that be so bad?

I assume their are a few non-religious people in Politics who use religion to appeal to the lowest common dominator, Look at Huckabee, I think McCain just sent him to run to take votes from Romney.

I think that a lot of people that claim to be of specific religions aren't necessarily religious in their own lives.

Example - you can say that you are a Christian but if you don't live that way...y'know?

I can say that I am a carrot, but that doesn't make me a carrot.

So - it is frustrating when politicians use religion as some sort of platform. Kind of reminds me of the guys walking down Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras with Jesus signs. "Yeah I get it, you like Jesus - me too, but is this really necessary?"

So we are admitting that alot of politicians use religion as a front...
Would be okay with an atheist president?

I happen to be a Christian, but I don't think that any particular religion should be used to govern a country. This is why there are so many wars overseas. As long as the president does their job correctly - I would prefer that they stay neutral and govern with acceptance towards any religions' point of view. That saying, yeah - I probably relate more to someone that is a Christian, but at the same time there issues more important to govern this country then what god someone does or doesn't pray to.
