So, I'm driving on 128 today and noticed so many cars that didn't bother to clear off the tops of their vehicles.  Seriously, are you THAT lazy?  I barely make 5ft 4in and my car is cleared off! How you ask? Good question.  It's called a Kitchen Broom!! I use it to reach over the car!!!
Today,  I saw a piece, a large piece of snow glaze fly off a van and two cars ahead of me took it right on their roof! Lucky for them it wasn't their windshield.  That could have created quite the accident!!
It appears we may have LONG winter ahead of us guys ... I know, I haven't really enjoyed all the shoveling, etc., either but we have to be considerate of others. So, PLEASE clear your windshield!!!!!

I was driving on 128 North last night around 7:30 and there was a conversion van with about seven inches of snow and ice on the top of it. As he's driving it's blowing off in big chunks, flying through the air. I moved a few lanes over to avoid it and it still hit the driver's side window. It was only a small bit that hit but still, if it were bigger I don't know what could have happened. I was also kind of expecting it, ready for it. I tried to stay out of the way, but it was just going everywhere. Just another pet peeve of mine anyway. I don't feel comfortable getting on the road until every bit of snow is off my car. I think it's rude and selfish.

I'm pretty sure the police can give tickets regarding this. Wether they follow through or not is another question.

Captain, I thought they passed that last winter too...Of course, enforcement is another issue. It shouldn't have to be, because common sense should dictate that anything falling off your car while it's moving is dangerous.

One of the reasons I say stupid should hurt! (And I mean the people that are stupid, not the innocent folk around them.)

jonsmom, glad you weren't hurt! It is rude, selfish, and LAZY, bottom line! Captain, I did hear that last year they 'could' give out tix but not sure if that ever happened. They should it to me is driving to endanger!!!

Agreed, Smiley! If someone was blazing down the highway with bits of metal or fiberglass flying off his car, there's no question he'd be pulled over. Snow should be no different. Stay safe out there!

I was driving home on 93 north last night. There was a guy in the lane next to me with at least 6 inches of snow on the roof of his car and completely covering his back glass and trunk. I was tempted to follow him home just so I could tell him how STUPID he is!! He should be pulled over and fined!

I agree. I drive an SUV and I make sure the snow is always removed from the top.

Police should enforce this make drivers clear their cars/trucks!

Hi Smiley...while I agree that the cars should be cleared off, I don't think that everyone should be labeled as rude, shellfish and lazy. There are quite a few elderly woman where I live and for the most part they have a hard enough time just getting to their cars. I usually send my son out to do it for them, however we are not always around to help them.

If I notice a car in front of me with snow on it, I make it a point to stay away from it and not drive to closely.

Yeh SirB .. let's stalk them!! Love it! Just kidding .. but I hear ya. I wish I had the opportunity to let them know JUST what I was thinking!!

Suanjah, good for you! I bet it's not easy!! As a driver on the roads perhaps the same as you drive, thanks for being SAFE!!

I understand your point FoxFan67, however, the majority of vehicles I see w/snow on it are YOUNGER adults driving, and owners of SUVs which most old folk can't climb into! And for the few elderly that perhaps cannot clear it off, obviously they aren't 'lazy' but should i be endangered on the highway because they are old? It would be nice if more people were like you and your son to help out our elderly. However, again, the majority of cars/SUVs I see aren't elderly people driving them! Life is busy and time is precious, but so are our lives and people should make more of an effort to see that leaving that much snow on your car 'appears' to others as lazy or unmotivated and lack of consideration for others. Hope we all have a safe winter!! Smiley........

Not only lazy and inconsiderate, but stupid too! How about those cars with a foot of snow caked on the top only to have it slide FORWARD onto their windshield when they brake suddenly? Can't see too well when THAT happens! I have to include excavation vehicles that have rocks and debris flying off their payload and onto my windshield and grill.
Start getting license numbers when their stupidity damages YOUR CAR!

Great blog Smiley!

Hey RandyD!
Ok, Ill let you in on a little secret, I WAS the stupid moron years ago who didn't care much about the 'top' of my car till one day I had to stop abruptly to only have all the snow I didn't clear slide forward on my windshield and block my view! It was that day that I realized I not only was I lazy and endangering others, but myself too!! So I now ALWAYS clear the top, again, i BARELY make 5ft 4in tall but I clean it!! So I use my past expeience to educate others.. dont be stupid or lazy! I now use the snow time as my workout! cleaning my car, walkway and driveway, it's hard work and i love it!!!! : ) smiley......

I agree, Smiley. I remember several years ago I was traveling back to MA from northern VT after an ice storm. There was about 2 inches of ice on my roof which I would have needed dynamite to get off. By the time I hit I-90 in Springfield, I guess the heat from inside the car had managed to melt some of the stuff on the roof and all of a sudden, everything on the roof flew off. Luckily, it was very late at night and I was just about the only one on the road at the time. Sure makes you stop and think about how dangerous accumulations on the roof can be.

Don't you just love the semi trucks that have sheets of snow coming off the tops of their trailers?

Hey Smiley,
I refuse to believe that someone with a beautiful smile such as yours would be a moron. Should you have offended anyone with a lot of snow I would have gladly excused you.

Merry Christmas!

Hello Smiley,

I am totally in agreement with you! It just amazes me every time I see people that dont clean off their car/truck roofs. Its very dangerous. If someone else left their roofs like that and it hit THEIR car, they would be the first ones to complain. I have also seen people who only clean a little spot on their windshields!! Unreal.

Merry Christmas Smiley!

Hey Glousta, Honestly I hadn't thought of those times where you just CANT get it off till you've spent some time driving .. I suppose not ALL people are 'lazy' and at times it's just not possible to get it all off .. but I think you know the ones who just didn't feel like it .. like boston44 said the one's that clear of just a little spot on their windshield? Come on, seriously? And teacher5 I see you are as resourceful as I am huh? Well being short, ya kinda have to!! Hey RandyD, thanks for the compliment :) Wishing ALL of you a Merry Christmas and a HAPPY, HEALTHY NEW YEAR!!! Gotta go and be Santa now!! : ) smiley.......

hey smiley! i agree with you too! people are lazy when they don't clean off their car roofs and windows and some don't even care that it's dangerous. i don't have a car since i'm only 19, but i always help my parents clean off their cars if there's a lot of snow and such. but we always brush snow off the cars. and bostonfun, gotta agree with you on that comment you made. so true.

I was informed that if a "Snow Bomb" flies off the top of my 24 foot box truck that it's a $200.00 fine. I wonder if this fine goes to people who drive cars and are too lazy to clear off the roof.

When I suggested to my manager that he buy some roof rakes so we can try to remove the snow he said we could drive over to a set of stairs and clear it off. Easier said than done and he doesn't have to drive on the highway with stuff flying off. I would feel very badly if somthing happened from my truck's debris and I will try to remove the snow when it comes.

maybe I'll go spend the near $40.00 for a roof rake and use it on my truck.

Hi Smiley,

so nice to hear from people that have sent you this blog on this story and I don't think that a roof rake will work at all lafko06 and would like to hear your comment on this issue as well.

Thanks, Casimir Zigulis
