My daughter and I took part in the March of Dimes, March for Babies walk in Boston today.  I joined a team last year in a quest for raising money to help the lives of those who are born premature.  The outlook for preemies now is far greater than years past.  My daughter Sara, who just turned 10, was born 11 weeks premature, a 29 weeker, tipping the scale just over 2lbs (imagine those 1lb dumbells at the gym, take two, there she was!).  She and I are lucky to have survived her birth.  Without technology, she definately wouldn't have made it!  There are many causes of premature births.  For us, it was a placenta abruption which 85% of the time results in fetal death, that was 10 years ago though.  Okay enough sounding morbid. This walk was a reminder of how lucky she and I are.  Actually our whole family is.  She brings so much love and joy and completion to our family.  Without funding and research, our family may have missed out on an amazing little angel!  For more information on premature babies, or if you want to find out how you could help a tiny miracle, http://www.marchofdimes.com.~smiley

You find yoursweof on the right side of a number of charitable issues. "Hat's off" (no pun intended with your new picture).

Our oldest was a "premie" too...born 22 years ago in Worcestr Memorial Neo-natal ICU....

Hey Chip!
You have a 22 year old preemie? Wow .. that's a miracle... technology back then wasn't close to what these little ones have now! How premature?
I do find myself involved in charitable issues. Each of my kids were born with medical issues and without the generosity and dedication of our community who knows if either of my little ones would be here today. So I try to do my part now in the hopes that I'll be helping them and the others who will be born with similar issues. P.S. I like the hat reference! :) smiley....

We, too, have been faced with the issues of premature babies--my grandsons, who are now 10 years old, were also born at UMass-Memorial, in Worcester, and without their incredible knowledge and dedication, we would not have been so fortunate. My daughter was high-risk almost from the beginning of her pregnancy; by the time she was in her 6th month, it was total bedrest, and praying to keep those babies inside for just one more week; then it was the weekend; then 24 hours. Finally, they were born by emergency C-section 6 1/2 weeks early--both weighing in at slightly over 4 pounds, and perfectly healthy. Would you believe they came home from the hospital at 4 days old, and weighing less than 4 pounds? Today, they are strapping 5 footers and both weigh 125 pounds!!! I can't imagine what would have happened had my daughter not been fortunate enough to have such wonderful, competent health care during her pregnancy!!!!!

Doesn't look like a "preamie" does she? That is the whole family. I have spoken about each here before.

It's funny (not) but I get called a fraud more often than anyone, and yet I give my real first name, the town I live in (I was visible as Fire Chief...), the names of my children and pictures that correspond to all of it.

Recently, Martlet, on the message boards, is calling me a fraud regarding my service in the military (I admittedly made a mistake in writing a blog one morning...but my memory is less than perfect and I have "elder moments" more frequently than I would like, especially about stuff that is almost 40 years in my rearview mirror....). I had another guy say that the woman in the picture with me was not my wife, that it was posed for that I guess to mae myseof look like a stud or something (not likely)....she's prominently in the other pictures, and has blogged here under the name Okiedokie!!!

Sometimes I just don't get it!!! I'm a lunatic magnet...lol...yourself excluded.

Thank you for going to see our pics...and for what you do for sick kids...I'm thinking YOU are genuine too!!

Fraud? YOU? I never once got that impression, at all...i'm glad you excluded me from your lunatic magnet grouping!! I appreciate your kind words too .. I do try to present myself as myself .. am true to who I am and usually what you see is what you get w/me! I am passionate about my children and their well being, as well as helping others and use Fox and these blogs to do so! Glad I have found some good bloggers to blog with!! YOU would be in THAT grouping! Smiley...

Smiley--Yes, unfortunately, one of the boys has ADD/ADHD and Aspbergers. Right now, he's going through a rough period, but, unfortunately, I think it's the age, too. I feel so bad for him sometimes, because he just doesn't understand what's going on. He's such a good boy, though! It's funny, because when they were born, as I said before, they were so perfectly healthy. When they were 6 weeks old, they both had to undergo surgery for hernias, but both came through with flying colors. As they got older, one of them developed asthma, and had chronic ear infections, however, he has not had either for almost 4 years. The other one, who has the ADD/ADHD/Aspbergers, has NEVER been sick a day in his life with the exception of a cold now and then. And, they are both very healthy looking!!!

I have to commend you--you certainly have a full plate--and you always seem so upbeat. Your family is so very fortunate to have you!!!

Chip--2lb, 6 oz? Oh, my god!!! So very tiny!!! Thank god she's doing well!!!! And, you, a fraud? I think NOT!!! You are very real--that is what I like about you! You tell it like it is--if people don't like it--oh, well!!!

kayliesnana, I feel for your little guys and your family, it can be tough raising a child w/special needs and medical needs too. I appreciate your kind words .. I do try to remain upbeat and try not to let things get me down for too long, not much good comes from negative energy .. but I am human and do have down moments! I appreciate your blog and sharing your story! :) smiley...
