These gas prices are soaring.  No news there!  I was disgusted today when it cost me $40 to fill my car that I used to easily fill around $29! That is a HUGE price increase!  Not to mention that I drive alot ... so fill ups at $40 a pop are killing me, as Im sure it is all of you, especially those with large SUVs/Trucks!So I decided this week I need to start pumping my own gas!  Ok hear me out .. Im no snob, I just HATE the smell of gas and touching the pumps. Up until now, I would go and pay whatever to avoid having to do it.  I cannot believe I have had to do this, but at these prices, I just had to! So I am saving a few dollars there and buying myself an extra gallon! How sad is that.  Also got a coupon in the mail today for Shell for $2.00 off 10 gallons.  Ill be honest, I couldn't be bothered in the past to cut it out .. drive to a shell for $2.00 but this is what the times have brought me to!  What have YOU done to help cut costs?

Smiley--I know exactly what you are saying--I had an suv until just a month and a half ago--it used to cost me $35.00 to fill it--now, my new car--a Chevy Impala, is costing me a fortune. Granted, it's a little better on gas, however, it has a larger tank. I needed gas the other day--I stopped at $50.00, and that only gave me 13 gallons. I don't even drive 5,000 miles per year, and my gas bills are outrageous. I actually can't remember when I haven't pumped my own gas, so I haven't had to change that aspect of my gassing up. I do, however, do my grocery shopping at Price Chopper, and they have a program right now that really helps--When you do your shopping, and use your "advantedge card" you get money off your gas bill--the amount is determined by the amount you spend at the supermarket. My grocery bills are never less than $250-300, so I get a lot off my gas bill--I currently have $.70 off my next fill-up. I've had as much as $1.20/gallon. That can add up to a significant savings. I can't imagine, though, that this nice little perc is going to last much longer. I wonder if I can strap 2 car seats to the back of a vespa?

Measure when i go out to kill many birds with one stone! no wasted trips to one location if i have to head to Worcester 20+miles away for a medical appointment for my wife or me etc i make sure i hit other places like the Toyota Parts department to get parts or oil filters which are cheaper than any of the local parts stores like A.D.A.P. OR OTHERS an i hit the major department stores like SEARS or Home Depot to get things that are needed for the house i never just take a simple trip...I do my own tune ups on our vehicles an other major repairs an make damn sure the tires are inflated correctly an change all important maintenance on our vehicles OIL change is very important but also making sure it timed DEAD ON an change plugs rotor when needed etc....

I live in the country with many long rolling hills sometimes i will i will shift it into neutral for miles down the hills...an idle is better than keeping the foot on the gas.....

If i have errands to run when i can i make sure i dont go at rush hour! an sit in traffic for simple trips...if your at the back drive up to make an deposit shut off the car! it could be more than 2 minutes...especially if there is a good size line waiting to get to the teller but once at the teller shut her down....

Oh i forgot one thing! I get my gas in the next town over becuase our town is to expensive so if i have to get gas i make the trip for other errands too! but also keep the tank on full as mush as possible i try to top off after a quarter of a tank has been used the vehicle doesn't use as much gas do to tank pressure is in the full situation today's gas caps have many air holes to create gravity feed under pressure its important to get maximum pressure an flow FULL IS BEST!...its gets better gas mileage VS if i let get down to empty or below half...it also is so damaging to the Psyche when its just a quarter of a tank to pay for.....but timing is everything...yes?

Cowgirl,

I filled my Suburban this weekend (oops...it wasn't really filled). I had the "yellow light" on, I stopped to fill up. I inserted my debit card, and began pumping. The pump shut off at $75.00. I hung up the nozzle and got in the truck t drive away.

THE NEEDLE WASN'T EVEN ON "THREE QUARTERS"....

Sigh...

Kayle, since you have a newer car, I'd suggest you use gas treatment every few tanks too...If your fuel injection system is clean, you get better MPG.

Also, to help keep my costs down, I don't drive anywhere I don't have to. And, since the sort of local really cheap gas place is right near a Market Basket (No Price Choppers in my area), I try to fill up and do my shopping in one trip. Another thing is to clean your car out. Added weight kills your MPG performance.

Another thing that's supposed to be good, but I haven't tried, is using about half a tank's worth of straight moonshine. If gas goes up much more, I'll have to find myself someone with a still and try it out!

Hi Smiley73,

can you imagine that the price of gasoline has jumped to $3.88 that is awful to people that have to pay for that price and the Bush Administration had something to do with the prices going up don't you think so as well.

hope that you will read my blog and comment on it if you wish too.

Bye,
